Benson Beanie Knitting Pattern: One-Color and Striped Versions for Newborns and Infants

The Benson Beanie is the perfect no-nonsense hat for your new little one. Just a few quick yards of yarn, some fast and furious ribbing, and quick and simple decreases, and you've got a hat that can be worn all day, every day! Note: Pattern includes instructions for both the one-color version (shown above) and a striped version!

ONE-COLOR BENSON

MATERIALS NEEDED

Approximately 40 yards worsted weight yarn (used in photo - I Love This Yarn!) size US 9 / 5.5 mm double-pointed needles Darning needle for weaving in ends.

GAUGE

16 sts x 4" in stockinette (row gauge unimportant)

newborn (0-3 months, 3-6 months)

ABBREVIATIONS

cO=CO K =K K2TOG = K two stitches together P=P RND = round STS = stitches

DIRECTIONS

2X2 RIBBING

Using long tail method, CO 48 (52, 56) sts. Divide sts evenly on 3 dpns, and be careful not to twist. Rnd 1-4: [K 2, P 2] around. Rnd 5: K all sts around. Repeat rnd 5 until hat measures 3.5 (4, 4.5)" from cast on edge.

SHAPE CROWN

Rnd 1: (k4, k2tog) around. Rnd 2 (and all even rows): k all sts. Rnd 3: (k3, k2tog) around. Rnd 5: (k2, k2tog) around. Rnd 7: (k1, k2tog) around. Rnd 9: k2tog around.

FINISHING

Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Use darning needle to thread yarn through remaining sts. Pull yarn tight andsecure. Weave in all ends. NOTE: When decreasing the larger size hats, you will have stitches left over after the last k2tog - two extra for the 0-3 month size, and four extra for the 3-6 month size. These stitches willbe absorbed into the decreases as you go along, have no fear!

STRIPED BENSON

Approximately 25 yards worsted weight yarn (used in photo - I Love This Yarn!) - this is Color A Approximately 25 yards worsted weight yarn (used in photo - I Love This Yarn!) - this is Color B size US 9 / 5.5 mm double-pointed needles Darning needle for weaving in ends.
