Materials:
Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Worsted (85% Wool, 15% Mohair; 190 yds/4 0z (174 m/113 gm)) A: 1 ball, M-120 Limeade B: 1 ball, M-155 Lemon Drop C: 1 ball, M-183 Rosado Rose Novelty Yarns (optional): D: 1 ball Trendsetter Aura, Color #9329 (100% Nylon; 145 yds/1.75 0z (130 m/50 gm)) E: 1 ball Trendsetter Mosaic\*, color #1874 (58% Polyester, 34% Cotton, 8% Polyamid; 45 yds/1.75 0z (41 m/50 gm)) F: 1 Cascade Copa (formerly Cascade Fiesta), Color #9951\* (100% visc0se; 136 yds/1.75 0z (124 m/50 gm) \*Note: Trendsetter Mosaic and color #9951 of Cascade Copa have been discontinued. Finished Size:
Approximately 5.5" tall x 5.5" in diameter at the base, widening to 7.5" at the top.
Instructions:
Using circular needle & holding one strand each, A and D, tog, CO 72 sts. PM, & join in rnd, being careful not to twist sts. Knit 4 rnds. Rnd 5: With WS facing, knit active st tog with corresponding st on CO edge. Rnd 6: Break off D and knit with A alone. Rnd 7 (Buttonhole BO rnd): BO 3 sts, k33, BO 3 sts, k33. Rnd 8: Add E and work tog with A. Using backward loop method, CO 3 sts, k33, CO 3 sts, k33 Rnds 9-10: K3, break off A, add B, and knit 2 rnds. Rnds 11-12: Break off B, add C, and knit 2 rnds. Rnds 13-18: Break off E, add F, and knit 6 rnds. Rnds 19-27: Break off B, add A, and knit 9 rnds. Rnds 28-30: Break off A, add B, and knit 3 rnds. Rnds 31-34: Break off B, add C, and knit 4 rnds. Rnd 35: Break off C, add B, and knit 1 rnd. Rnd 36: Break off F and knit 1 rnd. Rnds 37-40: Add D and purl 4 rnds. Rnd 41: Knit each live st tog with the corresponding purl bump on the WS of last knit rnd. Rnd 42: Break off D, and knit 1 rnd.
DecreaseforBasket Base:
(change to dpns when there are too few sts to reach around circular needle.) Rnd 1 (dec): \*K7, k2tog\* rep to EOR (64 sts rem). Next Rnd & every even numbered rnd: Knit. Rnd 3 (dec): With B, \*k6, k2tog\* rep to EOR (56 sts). Rnd 5 (dec): With C, \*k5, k2tog\* rep to EOR (48 sts). Rnd 7 (dec): With B, \*k4, k2tog\* rep to EOR (40 sts). Rnd 9 (dec): With A, \*k3, k2tog\* rep to EOR (32 sts). Rnd 11(dec): With B, \*k2, k2tog\* rep to EOR (24 sts). Rnd 13(dec): With C, \*k1, k2tog\* rep to EOR (16 sts). Rnd 15(dec): With B, \*k2tog\* rep to EOR (8 sts rem). Rnd 16: Knit. Break off yarn and draw thru rem sts.
Strap:
Work 3, 24" 3 st i-cords, using 1 strand F held tog with A, B, or C. Braid i-cords tog and knot ends.
Finishing:
Sew in all loose ends. Place basket and braid in a pillowcase closed with a heavy rubberband & place in washer for felting. Use small amount of detergent, a low water level, and hot water. Shrink until sts are no longer visible. Block as necessary and push strap knots thru eyelets near upper edge of basket.
