MATERIALS:
Yarn: 8 ounces Inca Cotton Bottom reinforcement: cardboard from box and duct tape to cover it - optional. This pattern was designed to be a first project, and has more detail and fewer abbreviations than a standard crochet pattern.

DIRECTIONS:

Solid lower sides of bag:
Round9: Side 1: chain 2 (counts as first sc), single crochet in ends of the rows to pick up 7 more stitches; Side 2: single crochet in each of the 40 beginning chains; Side 3: single crochet in the ends of the 8 rows to pick up 8 more single crochets; Side 4: single crochet in the chain 2 that started Row 8, single crochet in the next 39 stitches, slip stitch in the chain-2 at the beginning of Round 9. Mesh upper sides of bag:
Round19: chain 3, double crochet in each of the next 95 stitches, slip stitch in the top of the ch-3 at the beginning of the round. (96 st) Note: In Round 20, the skipped stitches are all dc from Round 19. (320 st) Cut yarn, leaving about a $6^{\circ}$ tail. Draw end through loop and tighten. Finishing: Use a tapestry needle and hide the ends by threading them under a row of stitches. Optional bottom reinforcement: Cut cardboard to fit bottom of market bag. Cover cardboard with duct tape for reinforcement and water resistance. Place cardboard in the bottom of the bag. This chart shows the mesh layout of the bag. This design may be personalized by filling any of the white open squares. Instead of crocheting two chains to make an open mesh, make two double crochet in the space to make a solid square.
