Straps
Cut 12 lengths of yarn that are approximately 3 times the length you would like the final strap to be (i.e. cut 2 yards for a 24" strap). Set aside six of them. The mesh created for the sides of the bag will have 8 peaks on the top. Join 3 lengths of yarn to each of two peaks next to each other as follows. Fold the yarn in half. Insert the folded end into the ch 4 sp and thread the ends of the length of yarn through the loop formed by the folded end so that the length of yarn wraps around the chains. Gather up the yarn attached to the two peaks into two bundles, one for each peak. Tie them together with a square knot approximately 3 inches from where they are attached to the bag. Divide the yarn into three equal pieces and braid together until strap reaches desired length. Be sure to leave at least 4-5 inches of unbraided yarn. Gather your yarn back up into 2 bundles and tie them together with a square knot. Now we willjoin the other ends of the yarn to the top of the bag. You want the peaks that are right next to the peaks to which you joined the other ends of the yarn. with two ends of yarn at α time, knot the ends to the tops of each of the two peaks so they mirror the other end of your lengths of yarn. Put a dot of fabric glue on each knot, and snip off the yarn ends once the glue is dry. Repeat the strap joining process on the other side of the bag with the six lengths of yarn set aside. See the picture below for a close up of the straps.
