By Isabel McAlister Bell Hopscotch is a quick winter leg warmer pattern written with a choice of striping and plain colour options. You and your child can choose from a variety of styles and colourways to create your own individual pair. Hopscotch is a versatile knit your child will want to wear in the chilly playground at school through the colder weather. They also make great, quick gifts.

Materials

· Approx 136 yrds / 124 m / 59 grms 8ply/DK weight yarn · 3.5mm (US 4) circular needle (24" / 60cm or longer) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge

30 sts and 36 rows = 4" / 10cm in st st.

Size

Approx 10" length The pattern has been written to fit infants, but can be easily adjusted to fit by lengthening or shortening the main st st body of the leg warmer in between the ribbed cuffs.

The Knitting:

Cast on: 48 sts in M using Jeny's Stretchy Slip Knot Cast On (See tutorial under "Useful Links")

Ribbed Cuff A:

Row 1: \*k2, p2, repeat from \* to end Using the magic loop method, arrange stitches so there are 24 sts on each needles Row 2: Join in round, being careful not to twist. \*k2, p2, repeat from \* to end Rows 3-12: \*k2, p2, repeat from \* to end

Main Body:

Row 13: Start st st in C1 of chosen striping pattern (See colour options for choices), or M if following Style C Rows 14-77: continue in st st, following chosen striping pattern.

Ribbed Cuff B:

Row 78: Using M, knit all stitches to end. Rows 79-90: \*k2, p2, repeat from \* to end Cast Off: Using Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off. (See tutorial under “Useful Links") Sew all ends in and block.

Colour Options:

Style A: Even Stripes, Contrast Cuffs Style B: Uneven Stripes, Contrast Cuffs Style C: One Colour Style D: One Colour, Contrast Cuffs.

Knit 5 rows each colour in following order; C1, C2, C1, M, C2, C1, M, C1, C2, M, C1, C2, C1 (65 rows total) Style B Instructions: Knit st st as follows; (65 rows total)
