Orenburg-Inspired Hopscotch Stole Knitting Pattern with Detailed Instructions and Techniques

Pattern illustration

Designed by YuliaAV This stole is knit using some elements and techniques of Orenburg patterns. - Used stitches: Knit, YO, K2Tog, K3Tog, SSK (This SSK stitch is not typical for Orenburg patterns. It is an improvised st in the Hopscotch pattern which can be substituted with K2Tog. This st will be used in the stole body in the following clues to make an edge line more consistent and even.) The Orenburg patterns never use Purl sts, so there are no Purl sts in the Hopscotch Stole. - All even rows are to knit, unless the pattern shows YO's which are to be knit as \*YO, K2Tog\* on the wrong side of the work (there are some YO's like that in the clue charts). - Every first st of every row (wrong and wright side of the work) is to be slipped purlwise with yarn in front, unless it's SSK or K2Tog. Then move yarn to the back and continue working on the chart sts.

Beginning of the work - pointed edge

Loosely cast on 8 stitches. Loose cast on is recommended for easy pick up of 8 stitches from this side of the work later on. You can use provisional CO. Knit Edge 1: - Knit row 1. - Repeat rows 3 to 17 - 12 times. - Finish with row 16 - knit across.

There are 9 sts on the needle.

Secure the sts on the needle so they do not slip off. Using the second needle, pick up 8 sts from the short side of the pointed edge. When you picking up sts, insert the needle to the very first loop of the edge towards you as if to purl. Do not knit the sts, just keep them on the needle. Make sure you pick up the sts starting from the pointed side of the edge towards the flat side as shown on the picture below (from point 1 to point 2):

After that, using the same needle pick up 96 sts from the flat side of the pointed edge. There are 113 sts in total on your needle. The working yarn is between 9th and 1oth sts and your knitting looks like that:
