onda su onda fingerless mitts

About this pattern's name:
Onda su onda is the title of an Italian song by Paolo Conte (1974), it could be translated in Wave after wave. It speaks of a man who falls from a ship and finds his paradise on an island as a castaway. This stitch makes me think about the sea, crystal waters and beautiful shoals full of life... Maybe I need a holiday.
Materials:
Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (I used Manta by Filitaly-lab: $90\%$ baby alpaca, $10\%$ extra fine merino; 50 gr.- 1.76 0z. 110 mt. - 120 yd per skein) 1 skein. US 7 $/4,5\;\mathrm{mm}$ dpns set or circular needle Tapestry needle 2 stitchmarkers to mark the end of round and thumb gusset. Gauge: $10\;\mathsf{c m}\;/\;4$ inches $=20$ stitches slightly stretched, working in the round. Stockinette stitch (flat) $=18$ stitches. Note: You can use a set or dpns or a circular needle (if you use the magic loop method). Size: This stretchy stitch makes these mitts suitable for a man or a woman, for a smaller size use $4\;\mathsf{m m}$ /us 6 needles and Dk yarn.
Abbreviations:
$\mathsf{k}=$ knit st $=$ stitch $\mathsf{m}1\!=$ make 1 (I used the cast on method) ssk $=$ slip, slip, knit ssp $=$ slip, slip, purl $\mathsf{k}2\mathsf{t}=$ knit 2 together sl $\mathsf{M}=$ slip marker pM: place marker rep. $=$ repeat.
Directions:
Cuff section:
Cast on 32 stitches (I used the long tail cast on, but you can use the method you prefer; the cable cast on and the German twist cast on for instance are perfect for this project). Join for working in the round, place stitch marker to indicate end of round, work 4 rounds in garter stitch (knit one round, purl one round). Continue in waves pattern following the chart below (fig. 1). Work the chart up to round 15.
Thumb gusset:
On round 16, begin thumb gusset increases: R. 16: work in pattern to M, sl M, m1, place another marker to indicate the end of round. You have finished your increases. Work in pattern to M, sl M, (k1, p1) 8 times, k1 for 10 rounds more (or to desired length). Thread some waste yarn (in contrasting_ color) on tapestry needle, draw it through these 17 stitches and slip them off the knitting needle.
Hand section:
Remove one marker and continue working the other 32 sts in pattern 11 rounds more (or to desired length). I recommend you to try your mitt on, to ensure that it fits. Work 4 rounds in garter stitch, bind off, using a stretchy method.
Thumb:
Place your 17 sts on needles (3 needles, if you are working with dpns), gently remove waste yarn. Pick up one st. in the hole between thumb gusset and hand and knit 6 rounds in pattern (1/1 ribs), work 4 rounds in garter stitch, bind off, using a stretchy method.
Finishing:
Close the hole you may have between thumb and hand using a tapestry needle. Weave in loose ends, block lightly if desired (I didn't). Make another one and wear them... Chart: read it from right to left
