A wavy set for men and women.

Gauge: 10 cm / 4 inches $=~20$ stitches slightly stretched, working in the round. Stockinette stitch (flat) $=18$ stitches. Note: You can use a set or dpns or a circular needle for both projects, but you may need a set of dpns to make the last rounds of the hat (if you don't use the magic loop method).

Hat:

Cast on 84 stitches (I used the long tail cast on, but you can use the method you prefer, the cable cast on and the German twist cast on for instance are perfect for this project), join for working in the round, place stitch marker to indicate end of round, work 4 rounds in garter stitch (knit one round, purl one round). Continue in waves pattern following the chart below (fig. 1). Work the chart once, then repeat the pattern up to round 15. On round 16 begin decreases: R. 16: (k1, p5,k2t, k5, p1) to end R. 17: (k1, p4 , k2t, k5, p1) to end R. 18: (k1, p3, k2t, k5, p1) to end R. 19: (k1, p2, k2t, k5, p1) to end R. 20: (k1, p1, k2t, k5, p1) to end R. 21: (k1, p1, k2, k2t, k2, p1) to end R. 22: (k1, p1, ssk, k1, k2t, p1) to end R. 23: (k1, ssp, k1, p2t) to end R. 24: (ssk, k1, p1) to end R. 25: (ssk, p1) to end. $\mathsf{k}=$ knit st $=$ stitch $\mathsf{m}1\!=$ make 1 $\mathsf{S S K=}$ slip, slip, knit $\mathsf{s s p}=$ slip, slip, purl $\mathsf{k}2\mathsf{t}=$ knit 2 together ${\mathsf{p}}2{\mathsf{t}}={\mathsf{\Omega}}$ purl 2 together.

US 7 / 4,5 mm dpns set and circular needle Tapestry needle 1 stitchmarker to mark the beginning of the round (or 6, to mark each pattern repeat). Cut the yarn leaving a 30 cm / 12 inches long tail. Thread it on tapestry needle, draw through remaining stitches, pull the thread and secure it with hidden stitches. Weave in loose ends. Block lightly, if desired.

Neck warmer:

Work as for the hat, but on round 16, instead of beginning decreases, continue in pattern following the chart. When your neck warmer is $18~\mathsf{c m}$ (7 inches) long, work 4 rounds in garter stitch, then bind off using an elastic method. Weave in ends and block lightly, if you want. Chart: read it from right to left.
