Crochet a flock of little birdies for your furry little beasties to play with. A crochet hook, some yarn, a little stuffing, plus a few minutes of your time are all it takes to make a kitty happy! Tuck a little catnip inside and kitty will be in heaven! Kitty Tweets bodies are about $3"$ wide $\times\:2^{"}$ high.

Materials:

Size H $(5\;\mathsf{m m})$ crochet hook Worsted weight yarn Color A: 7 yards for bird body Color B: 4 yards for trim A bit of black or brown for eyes Yarn needle Polyfill or cotton stuffing Catnip (optional) Note: Use a Ch2 as the first hdc in the round or a Ch3 as the first Dc.

Body Circle: With Color A

Round 1: Make an magic circle by wrapping the yarn around two fingers until it overlaps. Work 10 hdc into this ring (10 hdc). Slip stitch to join the round. Pull the yarn tail to tighten and close the ring. Round 2: Work 2 hdc into each stitch around (20 hdc). Slip stitch to join. Round 3: Work $2~\mathrm{Dc}$ in the first stitch and 1 Dc in the next stitch, alternating around $(30\;\mathrm{Dc})$ . Slip stitch to join. Cut yarn; sew in ends.

Tail Feathers: With Color B

Join yarn at any edge st and ch5. Slip stitch in $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ ch from hook and next ch, sc in next ch. Slip stitch to join (where the ch5 started). Repeat from ch5 if you want a $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ tail feather. Next fold the body circle in half with the tail feathers at the fold. Then you will begin to close the body. Put your hook thru the loops on both the front and back of the folded circle and work a sc. Sc over 7 sts.

Ch8. In the $4^{\mathrm{th}}$ ch from the hook slip stitch. Ch4, slip stitch in same place as other slip stitch. Then slip stitch back up the chain to the body. Slip stitch to the body (by the ch8). One leg made.

Sc thru next edge st on folded circle. Make another leg, then slip stitch to join (by the ch8).

STOP!

Stuff bird body before continuing! Wrap catnip in a little polyfill or cotton before stuffing the body. Continue to sc along the edge to close the body. Stop when you get to the fold.

Beak:

Ch4. In $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ ch from hook, slip stitch, next ch sc, then sc and hdc in the last ch. Slip stitch to join to body. Cut yarn, pull thru last loop and sew in ends.

With contrasting yarn and a needle, make eyes. Sew $\mathrm{X^{\prime}}_{\sf S}$ (or knots) on both sides of the head near the beak. Weave in all ends.
