Apple Contusion Prevention
System aka apple cosy

4mm crochet hook, Double Knitting Wool, needle to sew in ends, button Ch- chain, sc - single crochet (UK double crochet), dc - double crochet (UK treble crochet), hdc - half double crochet (UK half treble crochet), inc-increase, dec - decrease, NR - next row/round, instructions between () repeat along round/row Worked in the amigurumi spiral style to the opening, ie use a marker for the round ends and do NOT slip into last row and chain up, instead work straight into the next stitch and continue round, and then back and forth in rows for the opening
Main Cosy
Using main colour chain 4, slip stitch into 1st chain to make a loop. Chain 1, work 9 sc into loop -9sc NR - Increase in each stitch - 18sc NR sc in each sc - 18sc NR (1sc, inc) - 27sc NR sc in each sc - 27sc NR (2sc, inc) - 36sc Work 8 rounds straight, ie 1sc in each sc - 36sc
Make opening
NR Ch 1 turn, sc around to stitch before round start - 35sc NR Ch1 turn, (5sc, dec) - 30sc NR Ch1 turn, sc in each sc - 30sc NR Ch1 turn, (4sc, dec) 25sc
Make button loop
Chain 12, slip stitch into last sc of last round, fasten off Neaten ends, sew button onto opposite side from the loop. Decorate if you wish, some examples are shown below

Apple Apple Cosy
Make main piece in apple skin colour, ie a red for a mackintosh or a light green for granny smith. A red/green variegated would make a great cox's pippin. Leaves make 2 Chain 11 Slip into 2nd chain from hook, sc in next chain, hdc in next 2 chain, dc in next 2, hdc in next 2, sc in next, slip into last, chain 1 then work down other side of chain, slip into 1"t chain (the one that was last stitch working the top), sc in next, hdc in next 2, dc in next 2, hdc in next 2, sc in next, slip stitch into first slip stitch worked to close, leave a long end to sew to main piece Pin and sew to main piece when happy with placement. I would recommend overstitching a couple of times at either end of the leave and leave the middle unworked to allow stretching if needed.
Pumpkin
Make main body in orange Leaf ch13, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, slip stitch in next 8 ch. (stem made) Rnd 1: (sc, 2hdc, 2dc) in next ch, (dc, hdc) in next ch, 3sc in next ch, you will now be working down the back side of the leaf, (sc, hdc) in next ch, (hdc, dc) in next ch, (2dc, 2hdc, sc) in last ch, turn. Rnd 2: ch1, 3dc in 1st st, dc in next st, hdc in each of next 3 sts, (2sc, hdc) in next st, hdc in each of next 4 sts, 3sc in next st, hdc in each of next 4 sts, (hdc, 2sc) in next st, hdc in next 3 sts, dc in next st, 3dc in last st. Fasten off. Sew near top of main cosy. Maybe add some black felt eyes and mouth for a Hallowe'en feel.

2chain, 4sc in 2nd ch from hook NR - (inc, 1sc) twice NR - (inc, 2sc) twice NR - (inc, 3sc) twice NR - (inc, 4sc) twice Work 1 round straight, fasten off
