How to Square Zooty Owls
Starflower Mandala
This is an add on to the Starflower Mandala if you wish to square it up or make it into a centre for a blanket. You will need to know the following stitches (UsA terms) Slip stitch - sl/st Chain - ch Single Crochet - sc Half Double Crochet - hdc Double Crochet Together - dctog Double Crochet - dc Triple Crochet - tc Just a quick note - when I was asked to do this - I did the starflower in one colour as the important bit was the 'squaring' - it turns out that I may have added an extra 'picot' on the last round, so I have decided to keep this in the pattern in case anyone else does the same. PATTERN R1 - 67picots or 66picots Join yarn into a picot circle - \*chain 4 - sl/st into next picot\* repeat all around and sl/st to finish into the first picot. R3 - 67 picots ONLY Join yarn in any stitch - \*work sc along next 6sts - work hdc along next 12sts - work dc along next 12sts - over next two stitches dctog - tc along next 2sts - ch2 - tc along next 2sts - over next two stitches dctog - work dc along next 12sts - work hdc along next 12sts - work sc along next 6sts\* - repeat from \* to \* four times in total R3 - 66 picots ONLY Join yarn in any stitch - \*work sc along next 6sts - work hdc along next 12sts - work dc along next 13sts -tc along next 2sts - ch2 - tc along next 2sts work dc along next 13sts - work hdc along next 12sts - work sc along next 6sts\* - repeat from \* to \* four times in total The pattern corrects itself from here. R4 - In a ch2 corner space join yarn and in that space work- (ch4 -tc - ch2 - tc2) - \*work tc over next 4sts - work dc over next 9sts - work hdc over next 12sts - work sc over next 16sts - work hdc over next 12sts - work dc over next 9sts - work tc over next 4sts - in next ch2space (tc2 - ch2 - tc2)\* repeat from \* to \* finishing with work tc over next 4sts - sl/st to top of ch4.
