To fit wig sizes 3-4" (4-5", 5-6", 6-7") 7-8" (8-9", 9-10") Shown in sizes 3-4" (grey; ribbed brim; modeled on Soom MiniGem) and 7-8" (blue; rolled brim; modeled on FairylandMiniFee) There are a few simple hat patterns out there for BJDs, but none that are written up for all wig sizes. This pattern is an easy beginner project or a great jumping-off point for advanced colourwork and funky stitch patterns - or just something quick to knit for a homecoming hat, swap gift, wig cap, etc. Needles: 2mm and 1.75mm DPNs (or size needed to obtain gauge) Yarn: 10-40 yards of fingering weight, 14 wpi (sock yarn scraps are an excellent choice) Gauge: 8 sts & 13 rounds per inch (3.25 sts & 5.25 rounds per cm) Notions: split-ring or locking stitch marker to mark beginning of round, yarn needle for finishing Skills: knit/purl in the round, m1 increase
Abbreviations:
b.o.-bind off c.o.- cast on k -knit m1 - make one stitch by drawing up yarn from between stitches and knitting into it
Notes:
This hat pattern is designed to fit over most standard wigs, but if your doll has “big hair" you may wish to go up one size. It's also possible to alter the increase pattern slightly for dolls with slightly large or small heads for their wig size. The hat is constructed of six wedge-like “sections" that start with only one stitch each in the cast on round, and grow as you work the crown of the hat - if the next size up or down doesn't fit your doll, try adding or subtracting a half-increase round. If you need to read about this in more detail, please visit my blog for a full tutorial! Gauge is important in this pattern, especially if you are knitting for a swap or homecoming. If your gauge is off, the hat will not fit! You may wish to swatch in the round, or at least check gauge on the hat itself before you bind off. If you have too many stitches per inch, go up one needle size; if you have too few, go down one.

Work even in stockinette (knitting every stitch) for 8 (8, 10, 12) 14 (18, 18) rounds or desired length. Proceed to preferred brim section.
