"Windmill"
UK terms pattern by Shelley Husband 2014 http://spincushions.com/

Notes :
The pattern is written to start most rounds with 3 ch in place of a tr. I like to start with a false tr instead. I've made a video showing how I do this here : https://vime0.com/83552823 It is fiddly at first, but I think you'll agree it looks much nicer than the standard ch 3. It's worth learning. However, if this doesn't bother you, go for the normal ch 3 start of each round.
Materials :
I used a 4.5mm hook and 8 ply acrylic yarn to make the pictured square. I've also made one in wool. I do tend to crochet tighter than most, so you may have to go down a hook size or 2 if size is important. I made a 4 round standard Granny Square with this hook and yarn combo. My granny measured 4.5 mm hook (7 US) = 10 cm

Stitches :
ch = chain tr = treble crochet ss = slip stitch dtr = double treble crochet dc = double crochet v st = tr, 2 ch, tr in same space fpdc = front post double crochet st ch = starting chain

The case for blocking :
Here is my square before and after blocking. Before blocking it measured about 11". Blocking is required to stretch out the pattern and make it to 12".
