Instructions:

Cast on a multiple of 4 sts (I did 56/36/32 for a 6" to 7" wrist). K2, P2 rib for cuff to desired length (I did 27/20/17 rounds). Next round: K1, pm, K to last st, pm, K1. Next round: Kfb, sm, K to m, sm, Kfb. Next round: K. Next round: K to st before m, Kfb, sm, K to m, sm, Kfb, K to end. Next round: K. Designed by Sarah Gamson 2013 Repeat last two rounds until the gusset width will fit around your thumb (I did 14/11/10sts at the start of round and 14/11/10sts at the end of round - these numbers include the first stitch which was part of the original cast on numbers). K every round until the gusset can join on either side of thumb (15/9/2 rnds). Cast off gusset sts from beginning of round, then slip gusset sts from end of round onto spare needle and cast off from inside edge (making the thumb hole one continuous circle once cast off and end weaved in). (I like the stretch yarn over cast off https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjynMuSPX4Y it has plenty of give for movement). Cut yarn and join cast off edge by weaving in tail (should be in the middle of the thumb on the outside edge; on the right as you look at your left hand and on the left as you look at your right hand). Rejoin yarn at start of round (next to thumb), now working hand body only, thumb gusset is completed. Next round: M1, K to last st, M1 (K in back of M1 sts this round only; this is to help prevent a large hole, there will be a small gap to stitch up at the end, see pictures on last page for clarification). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E311lLeKs4 Next round: K. Knit all rounds until hand measures desired length (I did 13/8/8 rounds). K2, P2 rib for finger cuff to desired length (I did 11/10 rounds). (Or try doing a garter stitch finger edge for extra stretch and comfort. K a row, P a row alternating to form garter st - I did 6 rounds for the aran weight.) Bind off loosely (in rib if did ribbed edge) or using the stretchy yarn over cast off (if you did garter stitch). Weave in ends and sew gap where hand body and thumb gusset join.
