5mm circular needle or dpns, 4.5mm circular needle or dpns, stitch marker (at least one but you may want more to keep track of your decreases)

This version was made as part of a promise made long before a dear friend's baby girl was even a twinkle in her daddy's eyes. Both parents and daughter love this eye catching, warm hat.

Cast on 96 (120) stitches on smaller needle using a two colour long tail cast on.

Tie a slip knot in each colour and slip on needles - these will not be counted as stitches - you do not need to leave a long tail.

Step 1: With MC over finger & CC over thumb cast on 2 stitches using long tail cast on Step 2: With CC over finger & MC over thumb cast on 2 stitches using long tail cast on Repeat step 1 and 2 until you have 96 (120) stitches Drop the slip knots off the needle Join making sure not to twist stitches. Place marker for beginning of round Work 1" of 2x2 corrugated ribbing: \*knit 2 sts in MC, purl 2sts in CC\* rep to end Note: CC is your dominant colour so be sure to always bring it BELOW your MC. Switch to larger needles Begin working colourwork chart. Follow chart as set to end. Chart will be repeated once. Please note that there are some long colour changes, make sure to catch the non-working yarn so as to avoid long floats. On round 21 (28), place a differently coloured marker after every 24th stitch. This will help you for the decrease rounds. Work decrease rounds 22-38 (29 - 47), switching to dpns or your preferred small diameter method when necessary. yarn through remaining 8 (12) stitches. Block hat into shape and weave in ends
