Glamour, elegance and sophistication inspired this wrap. Made with kidsilk haze, the colour wash and size 5 triangle beads allow the fabric to drape beautifully, delicately hugging your shoulders whilst allowing movement and keeping you "sensibly" warm in the good old fashioned 1950s glamorous way. I keep thinking of Audrey Hepburn, so Audrey Hepburn it is! This design used: Rowan Kidsilk Haze 3 colours, 2 25g balls of each colour (A, B and C) 750 size 5 Miyuki triangle beads 5mm circular needle Gauge 20 stitches over 24 rows 10cms in star stitch Finished size post blocking 125cm by 40cm The stole is easily adaptable size wise but this will alter the quantity of yarn and beads. The "star" pattern (see below) is based on a repeat pattern of 8 stitches plus 1 stitch. This means the pattern can be adapted in multiples of 8 plus 1. The stole is knitted from the top down. There are 8 rows to the pattern, the star stitch is completed on the wrong side, ie the purl side. Beads are added on the right side, ie the knit side, using the crochet hook method and being slipped on the stitch before knitting it. I chose complementary colours to complete the colour wash; the stole is knit holding 2 strands of yarn throughout, this achieves the colour wash effect.

Star stitch

Purl 3 stitches together, but don't slip off left hand needle, then yarn around the right hand needle,

and then purl together the same 3 stitches, but this time slip the original stitches off the left hand needle.

You are decreasing and increasing at the same time so the stitch count never changes. This stitch creates an "hour glass" shape.

Colour washing

The colour washing effect is created by using two strands of yarn and changing one strand at set intervals. It is similar to knitting stripes with the colour changes being more subtle.

Cut strand of B and add second strand of C (Cc). Continue as follows. Rows 1 to 8 twice, then rows 1 to 4 once. Cast off loosely and weave in ends. Block by soaking for 20 mins in cold water. Gently squeeze out excess water, do not wring. Stretch out and pin stole into required size. Leave to dry thoroughly, then unpin, and wear with a smile on your face in the knowledge you look as glamorous as 1950's flm star. Just a little note: One of my balls was short on yardage. I just changed to the next colour earlier. It didn't notice
