BIRDIE BEANIE

Materials Required:
Hook: H Yarn needle Scissors Yarns : (2 colors A & B). I have used Burgundy (color A) and cornmeal (color B) (Red Heart Super Saver Worsted weight #4)
Stitches/Abbreviations used:
Chain stitch -ch Single crochet -sc Double crochet -dc Stitch - st Double crochet Decrease - 2dctog
Instructions:
Using Hook H, and main Color(A) create a magic loop. R1: 11 DC in the ring. Join by slip st to first DC. (11 DC). R2: Ch 2, 2 DC in same stitch, 2 DC in each st across. Join by slip st to first (22 DC). Ch2 is not counted as a stitch throughout the pattern, hence first stitch will be the same stitch in which ch 2 is done. R3: Ch 2, \*2 DC in first st , DC in next \*, continue from \* to \*, around,Join by slip st to first DC. (33DC). R4: From this round onwards up to R13 you will be adding color(B) in between the stitches. Ch 2, \*2 DC in first st , DC in next 2 st \*, continue from \* to \*, around,Join by slip st to first DC. (44 DC). Note: In this round for stitches 12 to 16 use the color (B). R5: Ch 2, \*2 DC in first st , DC in next 10 st \*, continue from \* to \*, around,Join by slip st to first DC. (48 DC). Note: In this round for stitches 12 to 20 use the color (B). R6: Ch 2, \*2 DC in first st , DC in next 11 st \*, continue from \* to \*, around,Join by slip st to first DC. (52 DC). Note: In this round for stitches 13 to 23 use the color (B). R7: Ch 2, \*2 DC in first st , DC in next 12 st \*, continue from \* to \*, around,Join by slip st to first DC. (56 DC). Note: In this round for stitches 13 to 26 use the color (B). R8: Ch 2, \*2 DC in first st , DC in next 13 st \*, continue from \* to \*, around,Join by slip st to first DC. (60 DC). Note: In this round for stitches 13 to 29 use the color (B). each st. (60 DC).Note: In this round for stitches 13 to 29 use the color (B R10: Repeat R9. R11: Ch 2, DC across each st. (60 DC).Note: In this round for stitches 14 to 28 use the color (B). R13: Ch 2, DC across each st. (60 DC).Note: In this round for stitches 18 to 25 use the color (B). R14: Ch 2, DC across each stitch. Fasten Off.
Earflaps:
For making earflaps, count 14 stitches , evenly from both right and left side of the beanie and mark with stitch markers. (If you want less width for earflap you can reduce the number of stitches.) Repeat the following instructions on both sides of the beanie. Attach Yarn Color(A) to the hook, R1: DC across the 10 st. ch1 turn.(10 DC). R2: 2dctog in first and last , DC in all other st. ch 1 turn (8 DC). R3: 2dctog in first and last , DC in all other st. ch 1 turn (6 DC). R4: 2dctog in first and last , DC in all other st. ch 1 turn (4 DC). R5: 2dctog in first and last. ch 1 turn (2 DC). R6: 2dctog in first and last. (1 DC).
Eye:
With Yarn needle, and black color yarn stitch the eyes.
Beak:
Chain 10. Slip st to first st. ch 2. R1 - R2: DC across. R3 onwards start decreasing the stitches ,until you reach 1 st. Fasten off
Feathers:
With few pieces of yarn (few inches long), attach the yarn to the appropriate place by a knot.(As you attach fringes for Stole/Shawl).
Finishing:
Once the beanie is done, with color (B) SC across. Fasten off and weave in the ends. Attach the beak to the beanie by sewing it . Cut the feathers evenly to make it same length.
