Evie's Dream Scarf Pattern: Dutch Lace Knitting Project with Worsted Weight Yarn

Pattern illustration

Evie lives in San Luis Obispo, California, where it never really gets that cold, but she likes scarves and appreciates a fine fiber. I wanted to make her something that showed off a bit of technique and kept me interested long. enough to get it done - hence, larger needles, a lace stitch ("Dutch Lace") I obtained from a vintage mon tricot knitting dictionary, a simple garter stitch border and a single skein of yarn. Charts make me cross-eyed so there isn't one, but if you're a charter and feel so inclined, let me know! Also - obviously my scarf is still in progress here and hasn't been blocked. Blocking will really bring out the beauty of this stitch!

Materials:

$\checkmark$ Worsted weight yarn - For a short scarf used a single skein (approx. 150 yards) of Manos Silk Blend. Soooo soft! Use more for a longer scarf. $\checkmark$ US size 11 knitting needles (use whatever size you want, really - gauge and length are up to you). $\checkmark$ Stitch markers (2) $\checkmark$ Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Stitches:

$\mathrm{k}=$ knit ${\mathfrak{p}}{=}$ purl k2tog $\equiv$ knit two stitches together p2tog $\equiv$ purl two stitches together yo $=$ yarn over $\mathrm{sl}1/\mathrm{sl}2{=}\mathrm{s}$ slip one stitch purlwise from left needle to right (if sl2, slip each stitch individually) psso $=$ pass slipped stitch over the knitted/purled stitch and off the right needle cross 2 R=knit the second stitch on the left needle, then knit the first stitch

Pattern:

Cast on 22 stitches and knit six rows of garter stitch. Place markers after the first three knitted stitches and before the last three knitted stitches on each row (simply denotes the garter stitch border). Stitch count never changes by row - you'll consistently have 16 stitches between the markers.
