Teresa's Shawl Designed by: Anthony Butts You may NOT use this pattern for any commercial use. Whether this is selling the pattern or items made using this pattern, unless given permission by the designer. Level: Beginner with at least one lace project under their belt. Yarn and needles: I used Paton's Bamboo Silk and a Size 9(5.5mm) needles. This was 330yds. Worsted - To make a shawl: 600yds. Shawlette: 300 Notes: Shawl Design: This is designed to be a mock Faroese style shawl. This is a shawl knit with a center panel gusset and with two ever increasing triangles on either side of the panel. However, with a traditional Faroese shawl there is shoulder shaping in the design. But I left this feature out to introduce beginners to the basic design of this unique shawl. Why two stitch markers?: Well, to go back to what was just mentioned there will be two triangles growing off the center panel. As you knit you will see the triangles slowly begin to form between the markers. Here's a diagram(That I so expertly drawn) to better picture how the shawl is made.

Yarn Choice: As with all lace projects it is best to choose a solid of heatherd yarn. This is because any other wildness can obscure the lace design. Even if it is color striping it can fight with your work. With the mixture of shaping, lace, and coloring it will be too many design elements. I want this to be a very successful first lace shawl project for you. As for fiber type you always want to go with a natural fiber, wool, silk, cotton, etc. Acrylic yarns can be blocked HOWEVER with steam blocking you will never know how your yarn will be affected. Steam changes acrylic drastically. Wet blocking it will not work. Cast On 23 Set up Row: K2,place 2 markers,k17,place 2 markers,k2

You will just knit it this way until it is big enough. Then knit 4 rows of garter stitch and then bind off. If you are confused: Stockinette for 2 Orenburg repeats, trellis for one Orenburg repeat.
Optional Edging
Go to optional edging if you so please. Keep in mind if this is your first shawl it may be a little tricky at first. If you wish to not knit the edging go straight to the bind off.
Bind Off
Since this has to be stretchy you will want to use a stretchy bind off. You could switch to larger needles, if using interchangeables like Knit Picks or Addi's. You could also use the k2tog Bind off. K2tog bind off: Kn2, treat these sts like an ssk. Then, kn1 and do the same thing. Repeat this across. Block and weave in ends.

Optional Edging
Notes: On the last 3 stitches of every right side row you will k2tog, then you will have 1 stitch left in the chart. What you will do is work that stitch plus the next stitch that is the shawl body. Thus, you will be binding off the shawl as you knit the border.
