Yin or Yang Scarf

Yin (on left) is shown in Crystal Palace Yarns, Mochi Plus, Neptune. Yang (on right) is shown in Crystal Palace Yarns, Monaco, Neptune. Yin or Yang? Your choice! Yin (knit length-wise) plays nicely with long color block yarns while providing an interesting texture. Yang (knit width-wise) is knit with the same stitch but has a different look!

Notes
Yin (knit length-wise): the first and last 3 stitches of every row are knit in seed stitch (k1, p1, k1) and are included in the written instructions and the chart. Yang (knit width-wise): the first and last 3 stitches of every row are to be knit and are included in the written instructions and the chart. A different weight yarn may be used with an appropriate change in needle size. More yardage will be required if scarf is knit larger.
Abbreviations
(k1, p1, k1) into k3tog- knit 3 stitches together, bring the yarn to the front, purl those same 3 sts together, bring the yarn to back and knit the same 3 sts together again. You start with 3 stitches and end with 3 stitches. Instructions for Yin Cast on 201 sts. Knit 1 row. Work pattern repeat (Chart A, outlined in red) 48 times per row. Work rows 1-12 of Chart A twice; then rows 1-9 once. Bind off loosely, using knit stitch. Note: For a wider scarf, work rows 1-12 of Chart A until scarf is desired width; ending on row 3 or 9. Then bind off. For a shorter or longer scarf, remove or add pattern repeats in multiples of 4. Instructions for Yang Cast on 21 sts. Knit 2 rows. Work pattern repeat (Chart B, outlined in red) 3 times per row. Work rows 1-12 of Chart B 27 times, then rows 1-4 once (or until scarf is desired length; ending on row 4 or 12). Knit 1 row. Bind off loosely on Wrong side, using knit stitch. te: For a narrower or wider scarf, remove or add pattern repeats in multiples of Finishing: Weave in ends. Wash and block. Yin was knit with approximately 210 yds of Crystal Palace Yarns, Mochi Plus (95 yd/50 gm). Yang was knit with approximately 210 yds of Crystal Palace Yarns, Monaco (55 yd/50 gm).
