Needles

US size 2 (2.75mm) 32" for magic loop, or needles to achieve gauge.

Gauge

9 st to the inch in stockinette stitch (st st).

Pattern Notes

All sts are slipped as if to purl, unless otherwise noted. Rows begin and end at center back marker. SKP slip 1, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch Yoyarn over K2tog: knit 2 together Ktbl: knit through the back loop

Cuff

CO 128 sts, place marker (pm) Join to knit in the round making sure stitches are not twisted. Work cuff as follow for 3 inches. Row 1: \*SKP, YO 2x, k2tog\* repeat to end of round Row 2: \*k, (k, p) in double yarn over, k\* repeat to end of round Now, turn the cuff inside out. Leg: Row 1: slip the first stitch and knit a round Row 2: (dec row) \*k2tog\* all around. Decreasing down to 64 sts. Row 3: \*k2, p2\* round to maker Repeat row 3 till ribbing measures 3 inch (6 inches total from cast-on edge)

Heel Flap:

From the center back, k 16 sts. Remove marker. Turn and purl 32 stitches. Place the front 32 sts on the second size 2, 24" circular needle or a stitch holder. (These sts will be used later for the instep.) 32 sts should be on each of the two needles. Turn. Row 1: \*Sl 1, k1, repeating from \* across the 32 sts, turn. Row 2: Sl 1, p33, turn. Repeat these 2 rows 16 more times.

Turn Heel:

(Slip center back marker each row) Row 1: Sl 1, k16, ssk, k1, turn. Row 2: Sl 1, p3, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 3: Sl 1, k until you reach 1 st before the gap (there will be a small gap on your row of sts) Use one st on either side of the gap to ssk; k1, turn. Row 4: Sl 1, p until you reach 1 st before the gap, use one st on either side of the gap to p2tog, p1, turn. Repeat rows 3 and 4 until there are 18 sts left on the needle. Turn and k across row.

Gussets:

Pick up and ktbl 18 sts along the side of the heel flap (1 st in each slipped st and 1 st between top of heel flap and held instep sts), place marker Work across 32 instep sts in stockinette, place marker. Pick up and ktbl 1 st between instep sts and top of heel flap, pick up and k 17 sts along side edge of heel flap. Knit 9, place marker - this is your center back marker again. Continue, decreasing as follows: Row 1: Knit across bottom of sock until 3 sts before right side marker K2tog, k1, slip marker, work 32 instep sts in stockinette, slip marker, k1, ssk, knit to end of row. Row 2: knit to marker, sl marker, work 32 instep sts in pattern, slip marker, knit to end of row. Knit instep of sock and bottom of sock in stockinette stitch. Continue to decrease at gussets until there are 32 stitches on the bottom of the sock. There should be a total of 64 sts on the needles. Copyright Dorothy D'Ascanio 2011. Continue to knit in stockinette stitch till foot measure 1.5" less than desired length. Toe: Starting from center back: Row 1: \* k6, k2tog\* repeat from \* around. Row 2: Knit. Row 3: \* k5, k2tog \* repeat from \* around. Row 4: Knit Continue decreasing in established pattern Ending with \* k2tog \* repeat from \* around leaving you with 8 stitches on your needles. Cut yarn about 12 inches long and using a tapestry needle, run thread through remaining 8 stitches. Pull tight and run through stitches several times to reinforce. Weave in ends. Block.
