Pirate Sock Hat ① Nuclear Knits 2007
Get your ayy on. I was asked by a friend for a pirate stocking hat. This is what I came up with. It is a fun warm hat with mini scull and crossbones at the bottom. Gauge: 4.5 sts /inch Materials: Lion Brand Imagine (one solid color and one variegated color), straight needles & circular size 8 us or 5.0mm (or whatever size is needed to obtain gauge). This pattern is designed for a 22.5'" head.

K - Knit MC - Main Color P-Purl k2tog - Knit two together
Pattern
Cast on 100 stitches of main color onto circular needles. Make sure not to twist the yarn when you join in a round. Place a marker at the beginning of the row. \*K2,P2\* working in pattern for 1.5". At beginning of round knit until piece measures 3 %\*"
Decrease Rows
og, k23\* repeat between\* until you hit the marker at the beginning of the row Work 10 rows in knit. og,k22\* repeat between\* until you hit the marker at the beginning of the row. Work 8 rows in knit. \*K2tog,k21\* repeat between\* until you hit the marker at the beginning of the row. Work 6 rows in knit. Continue decreasing (decreasing the number from 21 ending with 17 stitches between your decreases). Work 6 rows in knit between. Knit until you have worked 6" past the last decrease. Next row you'll be working in pirate pattern. Evenly space 4 pirates. \*K2, pirate pattern\*, repeat between \*. The skull pattern is worked from row 1 to row 12. This way when the hat hangs the skulls will be facing the correct direction. Once the skull pattern is complete work 2 rows even in main color. At any point past here you can change to double pointed needles. \*K6, K2tog\* until the end of the row. Knit 2 rows even \*K5,K2tog\* until the end of the row. Knit 2 rows even Continue decreasing in the same manner until you have k1,k2tog. Once you have finished this decrease row, use a needle to thread through each of the stitches. Weave in all loose ends. Give to your favorite pirate!
