Change color wherever you want to create 1 stripe or more... In example of green hat, change to black in 19th round, than crochet 1 round in black and pick back up the green, finish of the black yarn In example of the stripey 3-color version I just changed colors when I felt for it but if you do this don't wait too long so you don't have to fasten off a color, and take the 2 colors you don't use 'with' you at the back side of the hat..
