Kujeillen
Kujeillen fingerless mittens were originally designed for LYS Lankakauppa Kuje. The pattern works best in solid or semisolid color. Right and left hand mittens are mirror images of each other.

Needles
80 cm circular needle, 2,5 mm or suitable to obtain gauge Instructions are for magic looping; dpns can be used just as well.
Gauge
29 sts and 42 rows = 10 cm in stockinette
Size
Average female; the size is easily adjustable by changing the number of stitches in the stockinette part of the mittens
Instructions
Left hand mitten CO 48 sts and distribute evenly onto both needles. Join to begin working in the round being careful not to twist. Knit the first round and purl the second. Repeat these two rounds altogether three times (= three purl row ridges). Knit one more round. From now on work sts on needle 1 (back of the hand) as follows: k12, chart 1, k2. Work chart rows S-8 once and then repeat rows 1-8 seven times. Finally work chart rows 9-14 once. Knit all sts on needle 2 (palm). When you have worked chart 1 three times (= three nupps), start thumb gusset on needle 2.
Thumb qusset (left hand mitten)
Work thumb gusset increases every third round. Knit the sts on needle 2 on the rounds between increase rounds. increase round 1: k20 , M1R, k2, M1L, k2 increase round 2: k20 , M1R, k4, M1L, k2 increase round 3: k20 , M1R, k6, M1L, k2 increase round 4: k20 , M1R, k8, M1L, k2 increase round 5: k20 , M1R, k10, M1L, k2 increase round 6: k20 , M1R, k12, M1L, k2 After increase round 6 knit sts on needle 2 for two more rounds. On the following round work sts on needle 2 as follows: k20, slip 14 thumb gusset sts onto safety pin, CO 4 sts, k2. Knit the sts on needle 2 on next three rounds. On the fourth round decrease 2 sts on needle 2 as follows: k19, ssk, k2, k2tog, k1. From now on knit the sts on needle 2。 After you have finished chart 1 row 14 on needle 1 knit till the end of the round. Then knit one round and purl one round. Repeat these two rounds twice more (= three purl row ridges). Cast Off.
Thumb
Pick up 14 thumb gusset sts from the safety pin. Pick up 7 sts from the upper part of the thumb opening (= 21 sts). Knit 14 rounds and purl one. Cast off.
Right hand mitten
CO 48 sts and distribute evenly onto both needles. Join to begin working in the round being careful not to twist. Knit the first round and purl the second. Repeat these two rounds altogether three times (= three purl row ridges). Knit one more round. From now on knit sts on needle 1 (palm). Work sts on needle 2 (back of the hand) as follows: k2, chart 2, k12. Work chart rows S-8 once and then repeat chart rows 1-8 seven times. Finally work chart rows 9-14 once. When you have worked chart 2 three times (= three nupps), start thumb gusset on needle 1.
