Anna's Winter Hat

Pattern Description:
I made this sweet hat for my baby girl who is 5 months old. It is her first winter hat. She has an average head size and this was a touch big for her so would probably be perfect for any 5-6 month old. I like the simple finish of the hat but you can add a pompom to the top as well. It is a very simple and quick pattern that would make a great baby gift.
Materials needed:
- 1 skein Bernat CottonTots ( 150 yds) or Patons Pure 100% Organic Cotton (117 yds) - US 7 (4.5mm) 16’ circular knitting needle - US 7 (4.5mm) double point needles (4) - ruler or measuring tape - yarn needle

Cast on 64 stitches. If you want a larger hat cast on additional stitches in multiples of 8. Join in the round and place a marker. Begin pattern as follows: O Knit 2, purl 2, around for 6 rounds or until the ribbing is 1 1%2 inch. Knit in the round until hat measures approximately 5 12 inches (knit one more inch if you would like to fold up the ribbed edge). 0 Begin decreases as follows, switching to double point needles as needed: ■Round 1: \*K6, k2tog,\* repeat to marker, ■Round 2: \*K5, k2tog,\* repeat to marker, ■Round 3: \*K4, k2tog,\* repeat to marker, ■Round 4: \*K3, k2tog,\* repeat to marker, ■Round 5: \*K2, k2tog,\* repeat to marker, ■Round 6: \*K1, k2tog,\* repeat to marker ■Round 7: k2tog across the round ■Round 8: k2tog across the round 0 Cut the yarn approximately three inches long, thread through the yarn needle and pull through the remaining stitches, pulling tightly. On the inside of the hat tightly secure the yarn end. OIf you want to add a pompom, cut the yarn longer and use to sew the pompom onto the top of the hat. Have fun! ?
