Convertible fingerless mitts Design by Anna Johanna
A combination of fingerless mitts and mittens for keeping warm and still being able to use your phone. 7he mitts feature an anatomically shaped hood and a lightning bolt decoration on the back which hides the transition to the hood. Thumb gusset and lightning bolt:
Work the thumb gusset increases on the 1t needle and at the same time start the lightning bolt chart on the 2nd needle. From this point forward there are separate instructions for right and left hand. You can use the charts either way you like: to make identical mittens or mirrored ones. Just make sure to focus the slipped sts of the charts above ktbl sts of the cuff. The hood instructions apply to both hands.
Right hand:
For 9 rounds, k on needle 1 and follow chart on needle 2. Then, start the thumb gusset increases. ft round:sm, k2, mlr, kl, mll, k to end of needle I and follow chart on needle 2. 2d round:'sm, to endof nele and fllow chart n nedle 2. 3d round:sm, k, mr, k, mll kto end of neede I and follw chart on nede . 4h round: As 2nd round. Continue (k needle 1, follow chart on needle 2) until you have knitted round 36 of the chart. Fingers:
Pinky round 1: sm, k 19 and place them on a holder, k the remaining 6 sts on needle 1 and the first 6 sts on needle 2 (place the remaining sts on needle 2 on a holder). C0 3 and join in the round to make the pinky finger. Pinky rounds 2-8:k all sts. Pinky rounds 9-10:(ktbl 1. pl) ×7. ktbl1 I worked the hands from the fingertips. Place the remaining sts from the holder back onto the needles and begin working on needle 2.
Next round:k allsts on needle 2 and needle1. pick upand knit sts from theC edge of the pinky finger.jin in the round. Knit in st st for 3 rounds. Once you have left the 4 lightning bolt sts on holders, continue in st st for 6 rounds or until you reach your pinky finger.
Fingers:

Hood:
Setup round:Holding the mitt in front of you facing the back side and with the fingers pointing up, pick up and knit 8 sts from the right side of the slipped sts, (place the next slipped st from holder to the needle, pick up and knit next st from the mitten) x 4, pick up and knit 8 more sts from the left side of the slipped sts, C0 loosely 24 sts, pm, join in the round. (48 sts) Next 5 rounds:follw chart on needle 1 (the back). (ktbl1, pl) x 12 on needle 2 (the cast on sts). Continue (follow chart on needle 1, k on needle 2). When you get to the decreases, do them on both needles. Once you have knitted the chart, cut the yarn leaving a 30 cm tail, graft the back and front sts together using Kitchener Stitch.
Thumb hood:
Setup round· Pick up and knit 7 sts from the back side of the thumb (4 rounds below the rib), C0 loosely 13 sts, pm, join in the round. (20 sts). Next 3 rounds:k7. (ktbl 1. pl) x 6, ktbl Continue in st st for 16 rounds or until the thumb hood measures 1 cm less than the desired length. Decrease round·kZtog to end of round. Repeat the decrease round one more time, cut the yarn leaving a tail, pull the tail through the remaining 5 sts and weave in the ends.
