Cadence Baby Hat
by Shannon M.Simonelli October 2009 I decided I needed to design a coming home hat for my soon to be born baby girl. This one ended up being perfectly sized for a 6 month old instead of a newborn, which worked out nicely since I know one of those! When I started charting out this hat I was going for a triangular motif. Imagine my surprise when I swatched this and discovered that in the repeats it became cute little hearts! Perfect for a sweet baby g SIZE Approximately to fit a 6 month old

MATERIALS
[MC] Knit Picks Telemark [ $100\%$ Peruvian Wool; 103 yd per $50\mathrm{g}$ skein]; color: Cream; 1 skein [CC] Knit Picks Telemark $[100\%$ Peruvian Wool; 103 yd per 50g skein]; color Aubergine; 1 skein 1 # set US #5/3.75 mm double-point needles 1 # 16-inch US #5/3.75 mm circular needle Tapestry needle Stitch markers GAUGE 20 sts in pattern $=3^{\circ}$
PATTERN NOTES
Be sure to carry yarn loosely. Knitting Fair Isle too tightly will cause the hat to pucker.
PATTERN
Using MC, cast on 100 stitches. Join in the round, marking the start of the round with a stitch marker. Round 1 & 2: Using MC $\ast\mathrm{Kl}$ $\mathbf{P}1^{*}$ to end of round Round 3: Using MC, $\boldsymbol{\mathrm{k}}$ all sts

Begin working chart (see below), repeating 10 times each round. If desired, place stitch markers between repeats. Work Chart 1 twice, then work Chart 2 once. Using CC work decreases as follows: Decrease Round 1: K1, \*ssk, K5, K2 tog\* rep to end of round Decrease Rounds 2, 4, 6, & $8\colon\mathbf{k}$ all sts Decrease Round 3: K1, \*ssk, k3, k2tog\* rep to end of round Decrease Round 5: k1, \*ssk, k1, k2tog\* rep to end of round (XX, 40 sts rem) On round 6, move last st of round to become first st. By now you should switch to dbpt needles Decrease Round 7: \*sssk, $\mathrm{k}1^{*}$ rep to end of round (XX, 20 sts rem) Decrease Round 9: \*ssk\* rep to end of round (XX, 10 sts rem) Break yarn, leaving about 6 inches, draw through remaining sts, pull tight. Weave in all ends. Washing and blocking will allow the stitches to lay better.
