· Solitude Wool, Romney Wool 2-ply, Aran wt., 133 yds / 121 meters, 1 hank, pictured in Turquoise · Size 10 (6mm) circular needle, 16 in (40.6 cm) · One set of 5 size 10 (6mm) double-pointed needles ·Row counter (optional) .Stitchmarker .Tapestry needle
Gauge
13 sts x 20 rows = 4 in / 10 cm in stockinette stitch worked in the round. Take time to check gauge. I am a tighter-thanaverage knitter, so you may have to go down a needle size to get the pattern gauge.
Pattern Notes
Bobble Making Tips: #1. If you are having trouble with the k3tog, use a crochet hook to pull your yarn through the 3 stiches, making the stitch and placing the stitch back onto the RH needle. #2. The bobbles worked in round 13 may want to stay on the purl side of your work as you continue, let them.The next few rows are easier to work with them on the wrong side of your work.You can go back and pop them to the right side of your work after a few rows.
Stitch Key
ssk Slip Slip Knit: Slip next 2 stitches individually as if to knit, onto RH needle. Insert tip of LH needle into fronts of these stitches from left to right, knit together. One stitch decreased. SKP Slip 1 as if to knit, k1, pass slipped stitch over knit stitch.One stitch decreased. MB Make Bobble: (K1, yo, k1, yo, k1) into one stitch, turn work to back side, k5, turn work to front side, SKP, k3tog, lift first stitch over second stitch and off needle. K3tog Knit 3 stitches together. Two stitches decreased. Abbreviations: CO=cast on, dpn=double-pointed needle(s), k=knit, LH=left hand, p=purl, rep=repeat, RH=right hand, rnd(s)=round(s), st(s)=stitch(es), tog=together, yo=yarn over.

Buttons Squared Chapeau
Using circular needle, CO 60 (66, 78) sts using your preferred stretchy CO method. Join work in the rnd, being careful not to twist sts and pm for beginning of rnd. Follow chart or written instructions below. Brim Knit 8 (10, 12) rnds.
Hat
Rnd 1: \*P1, k1; rep from \* to end of rnd. Rnds 2, 4, 6, and 8: Knit. Rnds 3 and 7: \*P1, k5; rep from \* to end of rnd. Rnd 5: \*P1, k2, MB, k2; rep from \* to end of rnd. Rnd 9: \*P1, k1; repeat from \* to end of rnd. Rnds 10 - 25: Repeat rounds 2 through 9 two more times. Knit 0 (2, 4) rnds before moving on to crown shaping. Here is where you may want to lengthen or shorten the depth of the hat, prior to starting the crown.
Crown Shaping
Divide the total stitches, onto three dpns. 20 (22, 26) sts on each needle to begin crown shaping as follows: Rnd1: \*K8 (9, 11), k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd-54 (60, 72) sts. Rnd 2: \*K7 (8, 10), k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd-48 (54, 66) sts. Rnd 3: \*K6 (7, 9), k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd-42 (48, 60) sts. Rnd 4: \*K5 (6, 8), k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd-36 (42, 54) sts. Rnd 5: \*K4 (5, 7), k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd-30 (36, 48) sts. Rnd 6: \*K3 (4, 6), k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd-24 (30, 42) sts. Rnd 7: \*K2 (3, 5), k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd-18 (24, 36)sts.

Crown Shaping continued Rnd 8: \*K1 (2, 4), k2tog; rep from\* to end of rnd.-12 (18, 30) sts. Rnd 9: \*K0 (1, 3), k2tog: rep from \* to end of rnd-6 (12, 24) sts. Sizes S/M (L/XL) only: Rnd 10: \*K0 (2), k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd -6 (18) st. Size L/XL only: Rnd 11: \*K1, k2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd -12sts. Rnd 12: \*K2tog; rep from \* to end of rnd -6 sts.

Finishing
Cut yarn, leaving a 12-in / 30.5-cm tail. With your tapestry needle, thread the tail through the remaining 6 sts on your dpn and pull tight, cinching up remaining sts to close up the crown. Pull the yarn through to the inside and weave in some of the tail.Weave in all other loose threads.
