Pippie Ripple
The beaches near where I grew up in Australia were full of those little critters that burrow in the sand and turn the surface into a fascinating series of little waves and ripples. The Beach Fog colourway of these socks contains all the hues of the sand and scrub of Victoria's south coast and the ripple pattern is reminiscent of the pippies, right down to their tiny breathing holes. SIZE Women's small to medium (see fitting notes for further sizes) GAUGE 8.5sts and 12 rounds $=1$ inch in stocking stitch.

loop, or needles for your preferred method of knitting in the round. Notions: stitch markers (optional); crochet hook and waste yarn for cast on; yarn needle;
PATTERN NOTES
These socks are worked from the toe up, beginning with a provisional cast on. Short row toes and heels are used but can be replaced with your favourite toe-up construction if you prefer. Working the first stitch of each short row with the yarn either forward or back creates a paired stitch, these yarn-over pairs are worked together when completing the toe to close the sides neatly without holes. Please do not be alarmed by the extent of the written instructions, the pattern is fairly simple and follows logically round by round. I recommend placing the odd stitch marker in between charts to help keep everything lined up.

The pattern is sized for a small to medium foot. By adding extra purl stitches between repeats it can be enlarged, however this will affect the way the ribbing flows out of the pattern. I recommend rather increasing the gauge and needle size if you need a larger sock.

Unzip provisional cast-on and knit across the resulting 29 live sts. Next round: k3tog (last two yarn-overs), k around (59sts). Instep Arrange stitches so there are 29 for the top of the foot, 30 for the sole. If working from the charts, commence round 1 of Chart A (29sts), next 30 sts are always knit.

Rounds 3 to 26 form pattern, 24 rounds in total. Repeat until cuff measures six inches or until $1\ \%$ inches short of desired length. Finish with either round 6 or 18. In order for the ribbing to flow neatly out of the ripple pattern, a particular sequence of knit and purl stitches is required. Ribbing: $^{*}[{\mathfrak{p}}1,{\mathrm{k}}2]$ three times, pl, rpt from \* five more times. Work ribbing for 12 rounds or until desired length. Cast off as follows: k2, \*slip 2sts back to left needle, k2togtbl, kl, rpt from \* to end. Break yarn and draw through last loop. Finishing Darn in ends and block if desired. If you wish the second sock to mirror the first, simply flip each chart so the centre eyelet pattern starts the opposite way. A subtle detail I couldn't stop myself from including!
