VALANCY
G8
Heidi Alander
One of my favorite books is The Blue Castle by Lucy Maud Montgomery. It's a romantic story of Valancy Stirling, a girl who has never been loved (or in love). she has always been terrorised by her family and relatives. But she has her own place, her imaginary Blue Castle where everything is beautiful and romantic.. This shawl got its inspiration from Valancy's story.

Beginning
CO 3 sts. Knit 7 rows. Turn 90 degrees to right and pick up and knit 3 sts from the long edge of the piece. Pick up and knit 3 sts from the CO edge. = 9 sts. Next row: k 3, YO, p 3, YO, k 3 Next row: k 3, YO, k 2, YO, PM, k 1, PM, YO, k 2 , YO, k 3
Body part (stockinette st)
row 1: k 3, YO, purl until 3 sts left, yo, k 3 row 2: k 3, YO, knit to first marker, YO, SM, k 1, SM, YO, knit until 3 sts left, YO, k 3 Repeat rows 1-2 until you have 287 sts on the needle.
Lace edging
Start knitting by the charts. Work like this: k3 (edge sts), work right side chart repeating the box approppriate times, k1 (center st), work left side chart repeating the box approppriate times, k 3 (edge sts). Work rows 1-36 once. Proceed then to bind off.

About placing the beads: green square means beading. You will be plancing a bead on every other green square, not all of them! Start placing a bead on first green square. Next square will be without a bead. Next beading row: Don't place a bead on first green square - place the bead on next green square. Like this beads will be alternating in the lace parts. Bind off
Bind off sts on the right side as follows: knit 2, \* slip left needle back to these two sts, knit them together, knit 1 \* Repeat until all sts are bound off.
And then...
Weave in ends. Wet-block well.
