Advent Garland 19, Cracker

To knit this cracker you will 4 ply yarn in red and green and 2.75mm / US size 2 needles. With green, cast on 15 sts. Knit 1 row for the edge. Change to red and work 6 rows in stocking stitch. Change back to green and knit 2 rows. Using red again, work the following four rows: Row 1: K1, \*K2tog, repeat from \* to end (8 sts). Row 2: \*P2tog, repeat from \* to end (4 sts). Row 3: \*Kf&b, repeat from \* to end (8 sts). Row 4: P1, \*pf&b, repeat from \* to end (15 sts). Using green, knit 2 rows. Change back to red and work 12 rows in stocking stitch. Knit 2 more rows in green and then, with red, repeat Rows 1-4. Knit another 2 rows in green. Change back to red and work 6 rows in stocking stitch. Finally, knit 2 rows in green and cast off purlwise. Join the side seam, stuffing the centre of the stocking lightly. Then thread yarn through the cracker and pull it tightly, taking a few stitches at each end, to tighten the ends. Add a button to the middle of the cracker. I used a tree shaped brad for mine which I attached before sewing the cracker up. Using a 2.5mm crochet hook make 30 chain and form into a hanging loop. Sew this to the top of the cracker.
