Amanda socks by Hepsi

Yarn: Zwerger Garn Opal Bambus or other fingering sock yarns About 50 grams, Noro Kureyon Sock Yarn Size: 40 Needles: $2~\%$ Addi's circular needle 100 cm Gauge: $28\;\mathsf{s t}=10\;\mathsf{c m}$ This is a toe up pattern. French heel. The name Amanda was my granny's name. So these socks are a tribute for her, a magnificent sock knitter. You start the socks from toes. Cast on 10 st on a double-pointed circular needle (Ullaneule in Finnish, Magic Cast-on in English). Knit the stitches. Pull the needle cable long and pick up 9 stitches onto the same needle. Now you have the stitches on the same circular needle. The beginning of the round is there where is the yarn. Knit the first 10 stitches. K 1, M 1 and knit to the end of the round $=20$ stitches. Now begin the toe increases. ${}^{\ast}\mathsf{K}$ 1, M 1, knit until the last three stitches, M 1, K 2 and again on the other side\*. Repeat \* \* in every row until you have 44 st, then every other row until you have 56 st. Knit still 10 rounds plain and start Chart 1 with instep stitches and knit plain with the bottom stitches. Increase $4\times2$ st on the rounds 38, 42, 46 and 50 of Chart 1 with the bottom stitches $=$ $36+285t=64$ st. Do this at the same way as you did the toe increases. Knit until you have 6-7 cm left of the total lenght of the sock. I started the heel increases on the round 52 of Chart 1. Go on knitting Chart 1 with instep stitches and increase in the bottom in every other row $10\times2$ again at the same way as you did the toe increases. Then you have 56 st in the bottom. Leave the instep stitches waiting. Knit wit bottom stitches only and start the short rows. K 18, PM, K 20, PM, turn, slip 1 st purlwise and pull it tight so it looks like you have there two stitches. P 19, turn, slip 1 st purlwise and pullit tight so it looks like you have there two stitches. K 18 and continue like this until you have two st left. You can also do these short rows with Wrap&turn -style. You are now on the right side of the sock. Knit those two st and the tightened 9 st and pick up 8 st after tightened st (that means one after every tightened stitch). Turn, slip 1 st purlwise, purl and pick up purlwise 8 stitches on the other side after the tightened 9 st. You have now 36 st between markers. Continue with these stitches flat knitting and decrease the last stitch together with the first stitch behind the marker. (Take the markers of now.) Do this purlwise on the right side and k2tog trough the back loop on the wrong side. Start Chart 2 at the same time. The first round of the Chart 2 is the round you knit purlwise and pick the st purlwise and the second round is the round you knit on the right side and on which you make the first decreasing. Continue until all the stitches behind the markers have decreased. Continue knitting with allstitches. You can pick up 1-2 st between the bottom and instep needles if there is going to be a hole. Decrease those stitches on the next rounds. Knit the Chart 1 with the instep stitches and Chart 2 with the bottom stitches. Continue until you have knitted the Chart 1 5 times or more. Knit the rib K 1 twisted, P 1 5 rounds and bind off loosely. NOTICE! If you use Noro, you might have to shape the pattern a bit.I didn't do so many increases in the heel, only 7x2. So I knit the heel with 50 st ( 16-18-16). Then I had only 32 st on the back side. So on the back side I had only 2 purl stitches on the edges and I didn't have to decrease that one stitch on the round 8. I also knitted the rib so that I decreased 6 st in the first rib round. With these shapings the Noro-Amandas are just fitting forme.
