Abbreviations
St/Sts - Stitch / Stitches· RS / WS - right side / wrong side· K1 / P1 - Knit one stitch / Purl one stitch. Yo - wrap yarn around right needle once to create new stitch. S2kp - Slip 2 sts together knitwise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitches over the knitted stitch.
Pattern Notes ·
To adjust size (remember that this will change the yarn quantity) for body width - pattern repeat is 10 sts wide. Length of body - just change repeat number, and for sleeve circumference - pick up more or less sts from body. Easy peasy! There are 2 versions of this sweater - version A has full lace on the body and ribbed sleeves· Version B has a wide lace border and plain sleeves·
Pattern
(Where pattern has differences between version A and B, these are in red) : Cast on 163 sts using a long-tail cast on technique. (Using a 5mm just for cast on will give you a nice, stretchy edge) Knit next 2 set-up rows - Row 1 (RS) - knit all sts· Row 2 (wS) - pl, knit to last st, p7. > From here you will be knitting in the lace pattern shown below.
Chevron Lace Pattern
Row 1 (RS) - K7, \*K7, yo, k3, s2kp, k3, yo\* repeat from \* to \* until 2 sts remain, K2. Row 2, 4, 6 & 8 (WS) - Purl all sts· Row 3 - K1, \*K2, yo, k2, s2kp, k2, yo, k7\* repeat from \* to \* until 2 sts remain, K2. Row 5 - K1, \*K3, yo, k1, s2kp, k1, yo, k2\* repeat from \* to \* until 2 sts remain, K2. Row 7 - K1, \*K4, yo, s2kp, yo, k3\* repeat from \* to \* until 2 sts remain, K2.

Version A - Once you have completed 12 repeats of the pattern (or desired length), on the next 2 rows (starting with WS row) knit all sts (Garter stitch)· Version B - On row & of your 4th repeat of the pattern, stop pattern and knit all sts (WS)· From here knit in stocking stitch (k all RS, P all WS) until piece is approx· 25cm (10") from the start of the stocking stitch, or desired length· > Place all sts onto spare needle, cable or scrap yarn· Now cast on again for the second side and repeat so that you have an exact copy of your first side·
Casting off shoulders
There are 2 different ways that I'm going to explain how to cast off. Pick which suits your skill level and patience! > The 7st way is probably the simplest. Cast off all sts loosely (with a larger needle) of both sides. Pin the cast off edges together from sides towards the centre, leaving a section in the middle as your neck hole. Try it on the see how big you want the neckline. (The sample has a 47 st hole for the neck). Now hand sew the two sides together, making sure that your right sides are facing· The 2nd way is shown on the sample. On both sides, k58, cast off 47sts, and then knit the remaining 58 sts· You will be doing this on the WS· (lf you would like a wider or narrower neckline, adjust the st count accordingly·) Now use the ‘3 needle bind off method to cast off both 'shoulders’ separately·
Sleeves
Pick up 71 sts from side of body, evenly with shoulder seam centred, picking up 1 st for every row. Version A - Knit 56 rows of 1xl rib pattern (kl, pl) then cast off loosely in rib pattern·

Finishing
> Using your yarn needle, sew side seams of sleeves and down body using 'mattress stitch', or just back stitching together· >Sew in all ends· > Now it's time to block! The blocking process is what will keep your lace stretched out so you can see the beautiful pattern· To block your garment, soak in room temp. water, very gently squeezing so that all the air bubbles come out. > Pop the top in your washing machine on the spin cycle to remove the extra water. > Pin the piece out on cardboard, foam or a yoga mat stretching out the garment so that it is straight, even and the points of the lace are nicely pointy. Leave to dry completely. (See picture below) > Your gorgeous new sweater is now ready to wear and love!
