Pixie style with plain brim Classic style with plain brim and fox ears Classic stylewith ribbed brim Use this pattern to create many different bonnets including pixie and classic style as well as a fox bonnet in sizes NB to 12m! You chose how you want to do the brim and the ties and the possibilities are many. Gauge 13 sts by 17 rows in Stockinette stitch = 3" square

Materials

Stitch Explanation

^approx 40-60 yards of Rowan kid classic yarn (in rosewood for fox and mellow for the fox ears) or other DK weight yarn \~6mm/US 10 knitting needles(or size needed to obtain gauge), straight or circular work \~6mm DPN or long circulars for magic loop method \~5mm/H crochet hook, for fox ears \~Darning needle CO-long tail cast on k-knit p-purl st/sts-stitch/stitches k2tog-knit 2 stitches together sc-single crochet Graft tog- Kitchener stitch Ch-chain

Notes

For the optional brims you can either go right into stockinette stitch after casting on or do a knit 1, purl 1 rib or a knit 2 purl 2 rib for the first 4 rows. For the non-ribbed brim you need to cast your sts on tightly! I use the kitchener stitch for grafting together the backs of the hats for the pixie style and from here on I will just say "graft together". Alternately you can just cast off and sew the back together. The yarn band says it's an aran weight yarn but I find it is more like DK as it's thinner than worsted. The bonnets are knit flat then change to knit in the round for the decreases and ears for the fox hat are crocheted.

Ties & roll free plain brim

Ch 60 for NB and 70 for 6m, 80 for 12m. Slip stitch to the corners off the bonnets and either leave as is for a more delicate look or you can slip stitch or single crochet back down the chain. Alternately you can just have loose string for the ties or braids. If you want to keep the plain brim from rolling back, after chaining one tie, slip stitch it to the front corner of the bonnet with the right side facing you and slip stitch in every stitch across the front edge of the bonnet to the other corner. Then continue chaining the tie on the other side. For a 3 month size I would c0 45 sts and for 9m 55 sts.
