For Right Mitt:
Cast on 40 (44, 48) stitches. DO NOT JOIN FOR WORKING IN THE ROUND. Work in garter stitch for 4 rows. Row 5 (first button hole row): knit 2, yo, k2tog, knit to end of row. Row 6: knit Rows 7, 9, 11, 13: knit all stitches. Rows 8, 10, 12, 14: knit first and last 5 stitches, purl all stitches in between. Row 15 (repeated button hole row): k2, yo, k2tog, k1, ssk, knit to end ofrow. Rows 16, 18, 20, 22, 24: knit first and last 5 stitches, purl all stitches inbetween. Rows 17, 19, 21, 23: knit all stitches. Repeat rows 15-23 two more times (rows 25-44) Row 45: repeat button hole row 15. Rows 46, 48, 50: knit first and last 5 stitches, purl all stitches in between.

Rows 47, 49: knit all stitches. Row 51: knit 10, bind off six, knit to end of row. Row 52, knit 5, purl to bound off stitches, cast on six, purl to last five and knit 5. Row 53: knit all stitches. Row 54, repeat row 50. Row 55: button hole row 5. Row 56-60: knit all stitches. Bind off all stitches.
