Pattern Notes
The construction of this shawl is very unusual in that the second row is crocheted in front of the first, and the third row is crocheted below and behind the second. The pattern is formed by a 2 row repeat, similar to the crocodile stitch where the texture is on one side and not the other: a row of double treble and chain one spaces, followed by clusters of treble crochet forming curls at either end and groups of four treble crochet across which then stand proud of the work as the next row of double treble and chain one spaces is worked. Pattern is worked from the bottom up. The key to this pattern is to remember, when instructed to quarter turn, to always work from right to left as normal.
Pattern:
Foundation round: Make 4ch (counts as a 1ch and a tr), work 12tr into furthest ch from hook, join last tr to top of 4ch with a sl st to form a ring (13tr). Row 1: 5ch (counts as a dtr and 1ch), skp next st, dtr into next st, \*1ch, skp next st, dtr in next st repeat from \* one more time (4dtr and three 1ch sps), do not turn at the end of this row or any of the following rows.

Row 2: Rotate work a quarter turn to the right, 3ch (counts as a tr)
