Ribbon Awareness
Tote/Hot Water Bottle Cozy/Pocket Purse This cozy is designed with those suffering from endometriosis, but change the ribbon color and it transforms for other purposes. Pleasereferto http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List of awareness ribbons for a list of colors.

There are three options in making this cozy, making it with a ribbon on one side, both sides, or none at all. I'm going to assume for pattern purposes that you'll want the ribbon on one side. If you want the ribbon on both sides, follow the chart twice and make two ribbons side by side. If you don't want any ribbons, simply continue with the stripe pattern through row 5o.
Notes:
This pattern is in Us terms, Uk terms are dc (for sc), dtr (for hdc), tr (for dc). The ribbon is symmetrical so the direction you read the chart won't matter. Once you've added both colors, don't cut it for each stripe, carry it up along the side. It will hold together better and be hiden by the seam later anyway. You'll be making one large rectangle, then folding it in half to form the cozy. All of these patterns can be resized by making your beginning chain longer or shorter. Please be creative and make it the size that works best for you! You'll need: Soft and washable worsted weight yarn, 4 oz yellow and 3 oz white Size H crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge Large bead for drawstring, if desired
inch button for pocket purse, if desired
Gauge: 4 inch square = 14 sc/19 rows Final dimension = approx 10x12 inches Begin with yellow (ribbon color) and chain 79 1. Sc in second chain from hook and across. Ch 1, turn. (78) 2. Sc across. Change to white in last stitch. Ch 1, turn. 3.Sc across. Ch 1, turn. 4. Sc across. Change to yellow in last stitch. Ch 1, turn. 5. Switch to the chart if you are comfortable doing so, and come back to these instructions for row 51. If you are nervous about charts, here are the first few rows. Compare it to the chart and you'll pick it up quickly! Row5: Sc across. Ch 1, turn Row6: Sc in first 39 stitches (side one - no ribbon). Place marker in next stitch. Then using the chart, sc in next 3 st, hdc in back loops only in next 9 st, sc in next 15 st, hdc in back loops only in next 9 st, sc in next 3 st. Change to white in the last stitch. Ch 1, turn. Follow the rest of the chart. 51. Cut white at the end of Row 48 and weave in ends. Fold the rectangle in half with right sides together, keeping any carried yarn to the wrong side of your work. Slip stitch evenly through both thicknesses across the ends of rows, 2 slst in the corner, slst evenly through both thicknesses in remaining loops of foundation chain. Fasten off, weave in ends, turn right side out. Join yellow with sl st on Row 50. Tie both ends together in one knot to hold in place. Turn Me into a Tote! You can easily make this into a tote instead of a cozy by adding a strap: With yellow, and leaving a long tail for sewing before you start,chain7 1. Sc in second chain from hook and each chain across. Ch 1, turn. 2. Repeat until strap is 100 rows long 3. Rotate strap without turning, Sc in same st and evenly down length of strap, \*3sc in corner, sc across next edge\*, repeat from \* to \* three times. Sl st into first sc and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. 4. Sew both ends of strap to inside of bag at Row 5o. Weave in ends well. Optional: Add a large bead to the drawstring by threading it onto both ends before tying your knot. Use the bead to tighten the drawstring, or just let it be decorative!
