Hunter's Vest
Sizes: 0-3 months, (6-9 months, 12 months, 18 months, 2T, 4T) Finished Measurements CHEST: 17"(19", 21", 23", 25", 29") LENGTH: 8"(10", 11", 12", 13", 14") Notions: US Size 7, 16" circular needles (0-3 month, 6-9 month & 12 month sizes), US Size 7, 24" circular needles (18 months, 2T & 4T sizes), US Size 7 DPNs, darning needle, scrap yarn. 2 5/8"h buttons for 0-3 month and 6-9 month sizes. Yarn: Malabrigo Merino Worsted (shown in Lettuce). 1 skein (1,2,2,2,2) Gauge: Using diamond brocade stitch pattern -20 sts x 26 rows in 4 inches. Check your gauge!!
Pattern Notes: Worked in the round from the bottom up in the diamond brocade stitch pattern. Babies/children come in all different sizes. The vest is designed/sized for a more fitted look. When in doubt, go up a size! The 0-3 month & 6-9 month sizes are designed with a button closure on the right shoulder. This will help get the vest on and off baby easier. Diamond Brocade Stitch Pattern
1: K4, \*P1, K7; rep from \* to last 5 sts, P1, K4 2: P3, \*K1, P1, K1, P5; rep from \* to last 6 sts, K1, P1, K1, P3 3: K2, \*P1, K3; rep from \* to last 3 sts, P1, K2 4: P1, \*K1, P5, K1, P1, rep from \* to end 5: \*P1, K7; rep from \* to last st, P1 6: Rep Row 4 7: Rep Row 3 8: Rep Row 2 Rep these 8 rows.
Abbreviations
Sts: stitches CO - cast on BO - bind off SSK - slip, slip, knit 2 slipped stitches together K2tog - knit two stitches together P2tog - purl two stitches together {BEGIN } CO 80(88, 96, 104, 112, 128) Join to work in the round. Row 1-6: K2, P2 ribbing (tip - for a tighter rib, knit into the back of the knit stitches). Row 7: Work diamond brocade pattern. Increase 1 stitch at the end of this row. 81(89,97,105,113,129) sts Continue working in the round in diamond brocade stitch pattern until piece measures 4"(5", 5.5", 6", 6.5",7"). Shoulder Shaping.
BO 3(3,4,4,5,5), Knit in pattern for 33(38,40,44,46,54) more stitches. B0 6(6,8,8,10,10) sts. Knit in pattern until there are 3(3,4,4,5,5) stitches leff. BO last 3(3,4,4,5,5) stitches. Break yarn. Place the next 33(38,40,44,46,54) stitches on scrap yarn (this will be the front). You have now split the front and back.
{BACK}
Note: Work back and forth in diamond brocade stitch pattern. Since you are no longer working in the round, remember to reverse the pattern stitch on the WS rows. If the diamond brocade stitch pattern calls for a knit stitch, then purl and if the pattern calls for a purl stitch, then knit. 35(39,41,45,47,55) total sts on needles. (RS) SSK, cont. in pattern to last two stitches, K2tog. 2 stitches decreased, 33(37,39,43,45,53) sts (WS) Work in diamond brocade stitch pattern until end. Repeat these two rows 5 more times. 23(27,29,33,35,43) stitches remain. Cont. kniting in pattern back and forth until piece measures 2.5"(3", 3.5", 4", 4.5",5") from beginning of armhole. End on a WS row. (RS) K6(7,7,9,10,11) in pattern, BO 11(13,15,15,15,21) stitches, K6(7,7,9,10,11) in stitch pattern. Sleeves are now split off.
Right shoulder shaping.

Place live stitches on needle. Begin on a RS row. 34(38,40,44,46,54) total sts on needles. NOTE: You will be working back and forth. Since you are no longer working in the round, remember to reverse the pattern stitch on the WS rows. If the diamond brocade stitch pattern calls for a knit stitch, then purl and if the stitch pattern calls for a purl stitch, then knit. (RS) SSK, cont. in pattern to last two stitches, K2tog. 2 stitches decreased, 32(36,38,42,44,52) sts remain. (WS) Knit in diamond brocade stitch pattern to end. Repeat these two rows 4 more times. 24(28,30,34,36,44) sts remain. K6(7,7,9,10,11) in pattern, BO 12(14,16,16,16,22) stitches, K6(7,7,9,10,11) in stitch pattern. Sleeves are now split off. FRONT Right Shoulder Shaping. (WS) Knit in pattern to end (RS) SSK, knit in pattern to end - 5 sts (WS) Knit in pattern to end (RS) SSK, knit in pattern to end - 4 sts (WS) knit in pattern to end Stop here if knitting O-3 month size. {FINISHING}
0-3 month & 6-9 month sizes: Using Kitchener Stitch, join the left sleeve shoulder straps. Using your choice of small circumference kniting in the round method (magic loop or DPNs), pick up stitches around the left armhole. Knit in K2,P2 ribbing for 4 rows. BO all stitches. Using US 7 circular needle, pick up stitches around neck opening. Note that the neck opening will NOT be closed b/c the right shoulder straps are not joined. Work back and forth in K2,P2 ribbing for 4 rows. BO all stitches. Using US 7 circular needle, pick up stitches around right armhole opening. Work back and forth in K2,P2 ribbing for 4 rows. BO allstitches. On the front right shoulder strap, pick up 10 sts. Knit back and forth in K2, P2 ribbing for 10 rows. BO all sts. On the back right shoulder strap, pick up 10 sts. Row 1-6: Begin in RS. Knit back and forth in K2, P2 ribing. Row 7 (RS): K2, YO, P2tog, K2, YO, P2tog, K2 (buttonholes!) Row 8 (WS): P2, K2, P2, K2, P2 Row 9 & 10: Cont. Ribbing. BO all 10 stitches. Block and lay flat to dry.
12 month to 4T sizes:
Using Kitchener Stitch, join the left sleeve shoulder straps together. . Using Kitchener Stitch, join the right sleeve shoulder straps together Using your choice of small circumference knitting in the round method (magic loop or DPNs), pick up stitches around the left shoulder. Knit in the round in K2,P2 ribbing for 4(4,4,5,5,6) rows. BO all stitches. Do the same for the right shoulder and neck opening. Block and lay flat to dry.
