The Unicorn Horn Headband is a great way to use up yarn in your stash. It's a quick knit that makes a great addition to a Unicorn Halloween Costume or as a gift for a child.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED:

·Bulky weight yarn (two colors if you wish) for the horn. ·Worsted weight yarn for the headband in the color of the person's hair who will be wearing the horn, Size 5, size 7 and size 15 double point needles, ·Two % inch (or a smidge larger) buttons. ·Darning Needle. · Stuffing (If desired) for stuffing into the horn.

DIRECTIONS:

THE HORN:

Cast on (bulky weight) 10 stitches on size 15 needles, and knit in the round. Knit (in the round) two rows of one color, then knit two rows of another color, (keep this in mind for the entire length of the horn, even through the decreases at the end...). Knit the horn until it measures 4 inches or desired length. Page 1 - This pattern may not be reproduced, copied or distributed without permission. (Directions for the horn, continued) Next Row, K2Tog (repeat to end of row). Knit (you should have 5 stitches on your needles) 2 more rounds. Next K2Tog, K1, K2Tog. Knit next row (3 stitches left) Bind last three stitches together and thread extra yarn into inside of horn. Weave in ends and stuff them into the horn. If you don't think the horn is sturdy enough, stuff with a small amount of stuffing. Set horn aside.

THE HEADBAND:

Cast on (the worsted weight yarn) 13 stitches using size 5 needles. Start by using stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row) for roughly 5 inches. Switch to size 7 needles and start rib stitch (k1, p1) for roughly 8 or 9 inches. Switch back to size 5 needles and use stockinette stitch (make sure it matches opposite Stockinette side) again for6rows. On next Knit row (use this eyelet pattern): K3, YO, K2Tog, K3, K2Tog, YO, K3. Every inch or so repeat line above (on a knit row). (This creates the eyelets for the buttons that you willsew on other end of headband in order to fit a variety of head sizes. After last eyelet row (when stockinette section measures roughly 5 inches) purl one more row, then bind off all 13 stitches, and weave in ends.

FINISHING TOUCHES:

Sew horn on to headband (in the center) using the worsted weight yarn around the base and weave in ends. Sew buttons onto headband opposite the eyelets so that the wearer can alter the length for comfort.
