Hilma

Hilma-mittens have vintage spirit. Mittens are plain vanilla mittens except the wavy ribbing at the cuff. They are pretty easy to knit and knit up quickly.
Yarn
Novita Jussi (100g / 200 m, 75 % wool, 25 % polyamid), 100 g or any suitable worsted or aran weight yarn
Needles
DPN's 3,5 - 4 mm

18 - 19 sts ja 26 rows / 10 cm in st st

k - knit p- purl C2F - Cross 2 Front: knit into front of 2nd st on needle, then knit the 1st st, slipping both sts off needle at the same time C2B - Cross 2 Back: knit into back of 2nd st on needle, then knit the 1st st, slipping both sts off needle at the same time M1 - Make 1 st ssk - slip, slip, knit k2tog - knit two sts together

Pattern
Cuff
CO 42 sts and stat ribbing: ROW 1 (WS): \* k1, p2 \*, repeat \*\*. Divide sts on four needles (11, 10, 11, 10). Join in round. RND2: (RS): \*C2F, p1\*, repeat \* - \* RND 3: \*k2, p1\*, repeat \*-\* RND 4: \*C2B, p1\*, repeat \*-\* 5. krs: \* k2, p 1\*, repeat \*-\* Repeat RND's 2 - 5 until the cuff measures about 8 cm. Continue knitting in st st and start knitting the thumb gusset
Thumb gusset
Left mitten Knit the sts on needles 1 and 2 until there are 4 sts left on needle 2. M1, knit 3 sts, M1, k 1. Knit to end of round. Knit 2 rounds in st st. Repeat increases 3 more times every 3rd round increasing sts between M1's. There are 5, 7 and 9 sts between increases. Knit two rounds in st st after last increases. Next round: Knit to move 11 sts to waste yarn or stitch holder. CO 3 sts using backwards loop method and knit to end of round. Right mitten Knit as the left mitten, placing the thumb gusset at the beginning of 3rd needle. (knit 1, m1, k 3, m1, k to end) Knit in st st about 10 cm after thumb gusset or until your little finger is almost covered.
Top decreases
Needles 1 and 3: k 1, ssk, knit to end of needle Needles 2 and 4: knit until 3 sts left, k2tog, k1. Repeat decreases every 2nd round and then every round. Repeat decreases until you have 8 sts left. Break yarn and pull though sts.
Thumb
Pick11 sts from waste yarn and pick up 7 sts from the top of thumb gusset, 18 sts total. Divide sts on 3 needles, 6 sts on each needle. Knit the picked up sts from back loop on first round. Knit in st st until your thumb is almost covered. Start decreases: knit until 2 sts on needle, k2tog, repeat on each needle. Repeat decreases until you have 6 sts left. Break yarn and pull through sts.
Finishing
