Pattern Notes:

· This hat is merely the application of the syncopated brioche stitch; when it's stretched, it looks an awful lot like hexagons to me, hence the name of the pattern. It's incredibly simple. Were it not for the crown shaping, it would hardly need instructions, as you'll see. Thanks to the stretchiness of brioche, this hat should be a snug, comfortable fit on nearly any head size. Instructions are included for a smaller size (though I doubt they're really necessary), as well as for an optional turned brim, which while not necessary either, is very nice. This pattern, while simple, does assume a basic knowledge of brioche knitting, and makes use of the terms, abbreviations and symbols established by Nancy Marchant of briochestitch.com. Many thanks to her for giving permission to use the aforementioned items. If you're having trouble, I can't stress enough the importance of visiting her site. She demystifies brioche knitting like no one else. · When switching between charts A and B, the very first brioche stitch of the round (and that stitch only!) ought to be worked in the same manner as the round preceding; in other words, opposite of the chart. Otherwise, the point where the last round of one chart meets the first round of the next would have two consecutive brks or brps. This sends the yarnover behind or in front of both stitches, which becomes something of a sore thumb of the hat, sticking out and informing all would-be admirers as to where something is different. This is a scenario to be avoided.

Instructions:

Cast on 44 sts holding both needles together. Join in the round. (40 sts for smaller size.) Set-up round: (yf sl1yo, 9) to end
