Beryl Blanket
The inspiration for this blanket came to me during a bout of extreme stashbusting. I had been looking at the Heathen Housewife's Sock Yarn Blanket and had even managed the first couple of squares when Tinyowlknits' Beekeeper's Quilt came along. The two ideas kind of smooshed in my brain. The Beryl Blanket is really easy but please be warned it is very addictive. I have only just started mine so I haven't put a finished size in the pattern. You could take the basic idea and make it into a scarf, a cushion a cot blankie or a full sized blanket. Why not just start and see how you go? And why Beryl? Berilium is element 4 on the periodic table and its crystals are close packed hexagons - I know, I'm a geek at heart ;)

Yarn:
Any 4 ply yarn. I have used a mixture of long length variegated, together with colourful sock yarns and some paler colours. I found 7 yarns in my stash that harmonized together so I have given you a little plan to help you plan your project in the same way.

Needles:
1 set 3.25 or 3.5mm DPNs
Abbreviations:
co = cast on K = knit Sts = stitches k2tog = knit two together. SSK = Slip one stitch, then slip the next. Insert left needle into the front loops of the slipped stitches and knit them together from this position (through the back loops).

Pattern
Cast on 72 st and divide evenly across 3 DPNs. Join in the round being careful not to twist the stitches.
Hexagon 1
Row 1: \* SSK, K8, K2tog\* repeat 6 times (60 st) Row 2 and all even rows: knit 1 round Row 3: \* SSK, K6, K2tog\* repeat 6 times (48 st) Row 5: \* SSK, K4, K2tog\* repeat 6 times (36 st) Row 7: \* SSK, K2, K2tog\* repeat 6 times (24 st) Row 9: \* SSK \* repeat 12 times (12 st) Row 11:\* K2tog\* repeat 6 times (6 st) Break off yarn and thread through the remaining stitches, drawing tight. Now on to your next hexagon.
Hexagon 2
Cast on 60 stitches and pick up 12 stitches from the first hexagon. Work as hexagon 1.

Hexagon3 With this hexagon you will be picking up stitches from 2 other hexagons. Cast on 48 stitches and pick up 12 stitches from the two adjoining hexagons as in the diagram.

Knit as hexagon 1. Now just keep going until your project is the size you want. Enjoy!
