
Mondrian Colorblock Scarf
by Cate Carter-Evans Skill Level: Beginner Skills needed: Cast on, knit, cast off, sew or three-needle bind-off to assemble Dimensions: 7.5 x 66" Gauge: 4 stitches / 8 rows per inch, size 5 needles suggested. Yarn: Infinite Twist Handspun, or any aran-weight yarn yielding gauge.
Directions
1st Strip
1. Using color 1, cast on 12 stitches. Knit all rows until work measures 11". 2. Break off yarn leaving a 5" tail. Change to border color. 3. Knit 6 rows in border color (approx .75"). 4. Change to color 2, leaving 5" tail as before. Knit 23" in color 2. 5. Change to border color, knit 6 rows. 6. Change to color 3, knit 11" 7. Change to border color, knit 6 rows. 8. Change to color 4, knit 18.75." 9. Loosely cast off all stitches.
2nd Strip
1. Using color 5, cast on 12 stitches. Knit 17." 2. Change to border color, knit 6 rows. 3. Change to color 6, knit 11". 4. Change to border color, knit 6 rows. 5. Change to color 7, Knit 23" in color 2. 6. Change to border color, knit 6 rows. 7. Change to color 8, knit 12.75." 8. Loosely cast off all stitches.
Middle Border
1. Loosely cast on 264 stitches. 2. Knit 6 rows 3. Loosely cast off all stitches.
Making up
1. Using your iron's wool setting, gently steam block allstrips to a length of 66." 2. Sew the pieces together using the border color and weave in all ends. 3. Gently steam block again. Enjoy!
