CENTER: Make 16 ch, slip stitch in first ch to form a ring 1 ROUND 1 ch, 25 st in ring, ss in first sc 2NDROUND 1 ch, 1 sc in each sc, ss in first sc, fasten off Thread end of chain length for ring B back to front through completed ring A, then complete ring B. Thread end of chain length for ring C back to front through completed ring B, then complete ring C. Thread end of chain length for ring D from back to front through rings C and A, then complete ring D. Arrange rings so the join is hidden by the covering rings.

Join with ss in sc of Ring D
ROUND 1
1 ch, 1 sc in same place as join, ch 3, miss next sc, 1 sc in each next 4 sc, 3 ch, 1 sc in sc of Ring A. \*1sc in each of next 3 sc, 3 ch, miss 1 sc, 1 sc in each next 4 sc, 3 ch, sc in a sc of next ring. Repeat from \* until back to ring D. Count back 3sc from first sc in Ring D, 1 sc in $3^{\mathrm{rd}}$ sc, 1 sc in each next sc, ss in first sc.
ROUND 2
SS in first ch 3 sp, 1 ch, (1sc, ch 3, 1 sc) in same ch 3 sp, $^*1$ sc in each next $4\sec$ 3 sc in ch 3 sp, 1 sc in each next sc, [1sc, ch 3, 1sc] in corner sp. Repeat from \* two more times, 1 sc in each next 4 sc, 3 sc in ch 3 sp, 1 sc in each next $4\;\mathrm{sc}$ ,Ss in first sc
ROUND 3

The pattern formed by rounds 7-9 can easily be continued to make the square as large as you need. I stopped when I did because of the importance of 3 in Celtic lore. It just seemed to fit as complete to me at that point.
