wooly mammoth knits
designs and patterns by Linda Wilgus Bella Sera Shrug by Linda Wilgus

Bella Sera means "beautiful evening" in Italian, the language of my previous country of residence. I picture one wearing this little mini shrug on precisely such an evening, thrown over a strappy top or perhaps a dress for a bit of extra warmth on a cool summer night. This shrug only takes 2 balls of worsted weight yarn and is a very quick knit, with minimal shaping and a fitted shape through the natural stretchiness of knitted fabric. It is knit from the top down with raglan increases and has a neckline and bottom hem decorated with rows of yarn over eyelets. A wide ribbon is threaded through these eyelets and used to tie the shrug in front. If you prefer to use wool instead of cotton, you could also consider lengthening the sleeves for a more fall- or winter-time look. PATTERN NOTES
This shrug is worked from the top down, back and forth on a circular needle, with raglan increases in the yoke. $\mathsf{P M}=\mathsf{P}|_{\mathsf{a c e}}$ stitchmarker $\mathsf{K F B=}$ knit the front and back loop of the stitch $\mathsf{P F B=}$ purl into the front and back loop of the stitch Doubleyarn over $=$ move the yarn to the front, wrapping it around the needle as with a yarn over, then wrap the yarn around the needle again (two throws). On the next row, do NOT knit both loops of the double yarn over as with a regular lace double yarn over. Instead, purl the first loop and slip the next one off the needle.

FINISHING
Seam underside of sleeves. Single crochet along the two front edges of cardigan opening. Weave in all ends. Take a wide ribbon and thread it through the eyelets in the bottom row of yarn overs. Loop the ends of the ribbon twice through the yarn overs at the shrug's front edge to secure them, then pull them tight and tie in the front. You're all done!
