Suitable for beginner crocheters. MATERIALS: 2 x 50g balls Wendy Happy yarn (4ply) in shade Capricorn 4mm hook Tension: A 4-row square should be approximately 8cm square. Finished size: 22cm x 160cm approx ABBREVIATIONS: sl: slip stitch ch: chain ch sp: chain space

DIRECTIONS:

The scarf is made up of 4 sizes of squares, each made in the same way but with different numbers of rounds. The squares are made separately and then stitched together according to the plan on page 2 to form a scarf. The scarf is then edged to finish. 25 2-round squares, 18 4-round squares, 10 6-round squares and 5 8-round square

2-ROUND SQUARE (MAKE 25):

Rnd 1: Using 4mm hook, ch 4 (counts as ch1, tr), (tr, [ch2, 3 tr] 3 times, ch2, tr) all in 4th chain from hook. Join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch4. Rnd 2: Ch3, tr in next tr, \*(2 tr, ch2, 2 tr) in ch2 sp, tr in each of next 3 tr\*, rep from \* to \* twice, (2 tr, ch2, 2 tr) in last ch2 sp, tr in next tr, join with sl st in top of beginning ch3. Fasten off.

4-ROUND SQUARE (MAKE 18):

Rnds 1 and 2 : Rep Rnds 1 and 2 of 2-round square Rnd 3: Ch3, tr in each of next 3 tr, \*(2 tr, ch2, 2 tr) in ch2 sp, tr in each of next 7 tr\*, rep from \* to \* twice, (2 tr, ch2, 2 tr) in last ch2 sp, tr in each of next 3 tr, join with sl st in top of beg ch3. Rnd 4: Ch3, tr in each of next 5 tr, (\*2tr, ch2, 2 tr) in ch2 sp, tr in each of next 11 tr\*, rep from \* to \* twice more, (2tr, ch2, 2 tr) in last ch2 sp, tr in each of next 5 tr, join with sl st in top of beg ch3. 8-ROUND SQUARE (MAKE 5):

Rnds 1 to 6 : Rep Rnds 1 to 6 of 6-round square Rnd 5: Ch3, tr in each of next 11 tr, \*(2 tr, ch2, 2 tr) in ch2 sp, tr in each of next 23 tr\*, rep from \* to \* twice, (2 tr, ch2, 2 tr) in last ch2 sp, tr in each of next 1l tr, join with sl st in top of beg ch3. Rnd 4: Ch3, tr in each of next 13 tr, (\*2tr, ch2, 2 tr) in ch2 sp, tr in each of next 27 tr\*, rep from \* to \* twice more, (2tr, ch2, 2 tr) in last ch2 sp, tr in each of next 13 tr, join with sl st in top of beg ch3. Fasten Off.

TO FINISH OFF:

Sew the squares together according to the plan below using a tapestry needle and working over any loose ends as you sew. Darn in any remaining loose ends. Work a dc edging around the scarf,working a dc into each st and (2dc, ch2, 2dc) into each corner. Repeat for a second round. Fasten off.
