A fancy name for a hat that's quick, easy, and makes a great gift for anyone . The 6-fold symmetry of the decreases on top of this stretchy ribbed hat form a snowflake shape. This version calls for the worsted weight Noro classic, Silk Garden. The original version of this hat used the dk-weight Silk Garden Lite, which has been discontinued. Skill Level: Advanced Beginner. Skills include working in round, knit, purl, directional decreases. Yarn: Noro Silk Garden (45% Silk, 45% Mohair, 10% Lambswool);110 yards [101 meters]/50g): Color 319, 1 ball. Needles: Size US 7 needles, or size needed to get gauge: 16" [40cm] circular, 1 set double-pointed needles. Notions: 7 stitch markers (6 in one color, 1 in another), tapestry needle Gauge: 26 sts per 4" in 2x2 ribbing, unstretched. Recommended gauge for yarn is 18sts per 4" in stockinettestitchonsizeUs7-9needles. Abbreviations: CO: cast on k: knit p: purl st: stitch rnd: round rep: repeat PM: place marker SM: slip marker k2tog: knit 2 together ssk: Slip 2 stitches knitwise individually, then knit these 2 stitches together through back loop
Directions:
CO 96 sts. Place marker and join to work in the round, being careful not to twist. Work \*K2,p2\* ribbing for 5.25" or desired length. Setup round for crown decreases: Begin K2,p2,k1,pm,k1,p2. Repeat \*(k2,p2) 3 times, k1,pm,k1,p2\* 5 times. End \*K2,p2\* twice. 6 decrease markers placed Decrease round: \*Work in ribbing until 2 sts before marker, k2tog, sm, ssk\* around. Work 2 rnds knitting the knits and purling the purls without decreasing. Continue working decrease round once every 3 rounds until 36 sts remain. At some point, you will need to move the beginning of round marker to continue working the decreases. When 36 sts remain, work only 1 plain rnd between increase rnds until 24 sts remain. When 24 sts remain, do another decrease rnd immediately. 12 sts remain. Break yarn, thread on tapestry needle and pass through live stitches to fasten off. Weave in ends.
