Felted Confetti Bag by Ute
Basic construction is to make a rectangle for the base of the bag by working back and forth in rows across the long side. Then work around the outer edge of the rectangle in a spiral fashion, increasing in the corners for 2 rows only. This is my first time publishing a pattern - actually more of just a basic guideline of how I created my Confetti Bag. Ch 35. Row 1) Hdc in 3rd chain from hook and in each ch across. 33 hdc. Row 2) ch 2 (counts as 1st hdc), Hdc across. 33 Hdc Repeat Row 2, 3 more times. (5 Rows total of hdc for the base) ch 2 and turn sideways, work 8 hdc across short side of rectangle, at corner work 3 hdc in one stitch. \*hdc across to next corner, work 3 hdc in one stitch\* Repeat until you have gone around the rectangle twice for a total of 8 Increases (two in each corner.) Work hdc evenly in each stitch around the bag in a spiral fashion. I joined fancy novelty yarn on each row going across the front side of the bag. front/back are the same, just pick one side to be the front if using novelty yarn. No tying or joining in, just held novelty yarn together with the wool, then cut novelty strand with scissors at the end of the front side portion of the row. No securing of the yarn is required because the felting process will secure the confetti strand. I held both yarns together for the front portion of every row. After felting I trimmed any excess novelty strings that weren't felted in. To add Novelty stripe, once bag is nearly desired height: Hold novelty yarn with wool for two complete rounds. Then work one round of wool only. Join with slip st. Finish off To make handle: Lay bag flat and find center of each side. Join with slip st 2 stitches away from center. ch 2, make 1 hdc in each of next 3 stitches working over the center. Turn. Ch 2, work 3 hdc across. Repeat until desired length. Join to opposite side of bag with slip st. work across next 3 stitches working through both loops on handle and bag together with slip st. Felting process is very forgiving. My handle was 34" long and I stretched it quite a bit after felting to the length that I wanted while it was still wet. To felt it, I washed it twice. Just tossed into the washer (top load) along with the regular clothes. Do not add towels as the lint they give off will get trapped into the bag. Finished measurements, unfelted and laying flat, were: 13’ wide by 15" tall. Finished: 9 1/2 by 10" Pic below of back side of bag.
