Fingerless Mlitts By Fiona Alice
Stay cozy this fall with Bofur's fingerless mitts. Originally inspired by his character in the recent movie, The Hobbit, these mitts are knit with a chunky alpaca and merino blend to show off the rugged texture of Seed Stitch.The mitts are worked in the round on double pointed needles, with the thumb picked up and worked afterwards

Seed Stitch
Rnd I: PI, \* kl, pl: rep from \* to end. Rnd 2: Kl, \* pl, kl: rep from \* to end.
# Instructions
With 5.0 mm (US 8) cast on 24 (30) sts. Distribute sts evenly over 3 dpns. Join in the round, being careful not to twist sts. Work 6 rnds of Ixl ribbing (kI, pl). Change to 5.5 mm (US 9) dpns. Rnd I: Ml, \* pl, kl: rep \* to end. 25 (31) sts total. Work in Seed Stitch for 22 (24) rnds. Piece should measure 12.5 (13.5) cm / 4.5 (5) in.
Thumb Set-up
(PI, kl) 5 (6) times, break yarn leaving a tail to weave in later, with waste yarn work 5 (6) sts, rejoin yarn leaving a tail and finish rnd. Continue working in Seed Stitch till mitt measures 17 (18) cm / 6.5 (7) in.Approx. 12 (14) rnds. Change to 5.0 mm (US 8) dpns and work another 4 rnds in Seed Stitch. Cast off loosely with 5.5 mm (US 9) dpn in Seed Stitch.
Thumb
Remove waste yarn carefully and place live sts onto 5mm (US 8) needles. Pick up 5 (6) sts from the bottom rnd with one dpn. Pick up 6 (7) sts from the rnd above with another needle. Distribute Il (13) sts across 3 dpns. Join yarn and work in Seed Stitch for 8 (10) rnds (or until desired length). Cast off loosely with 5.5mm (US 9) dpn.
Finishing
Repeat pattern for second mitt. Weave in ends. Block gently and lay flat to dry.
