A mini "pumpkin-in-basket" bag for filling with little autumnal treats! This pattern combines both knitting and crochet to give a unique look to the project. The basket and handle are worked in crochet for sturdiness, and the pumpkin bag top is worked in knitting for flexibility and smooth texture. Once length is reached, continue by working the Large Leaf at the end of the cord, as follows: Large Leaf (working back and forth in rows again, turning at the end of each row) Row 1: kfb, k1, kfb (5) Row 2: knit Row 3: kfb, k3, kfb (7) Row 4: knit Row 5: ssk, k3, k2tog (5) Row 6: knit Row 7: ssk, k1, k2tog (3) Row 8: knit Row 9: k1, k2tog (2) Row 10: k2tog (1) Fasten off the remaining stitch, leaving a long tail. To make the tendrils at the end of the drawstring, simply loop and knot the tails at the end of each leaf in a few places and trim the ends of the tails to desired length when happy with the look.
Making Up
Using beige yarn, stitch the handle in place to the top crochet round at each side of the basket. You can also use a few stitches to secure the handle to the knit section if required. Thread drawstring through eyelet loops with leaves emerging at the front. Draw up and tie to close the bag. Note: the bag will always look its best when filled with goodies; when it is empty the pumpkin will be somewhat deflated! The bag pictured is filled up to achieve this round shape.
